On Friday, the Labor Department announced that the unemployment rate had fallen three-tenths of a percent, from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent, a pivotal but increasingly criticized statistic suggesting the economy is improving with just a month to go until the presidential election.
General Electric CEO Jack Welch promptly accused the White House of playing fast and loose with the data to strengthen President Barack Obamas political position, and Florida Republican Rep. Allen West echoed that criticism on Fridays broadcast of CNBCs Power Lunch with host Tyler Mathisen.
Its not about believing what Mr. Welch says, West said. It is about studying the numbers and understanding that I continue to see these inconsistencies, we continue to see revisions of the numbers upwards and downwards. When I look at these numbers compared to the workforce participation rate, which still remains at a 30-year low, when I look at these numbers of the 7.8 percent that you compare this to the U6 computation, which takes into account unemployed, underemployed and discouraged workers, that U6 computation number did not move. It stayed at 14.7 percent.
Mathisen took issue with Wests claim and argued that the integrity of the administrations data was not in question.
If you would stop yelling in my ear and allow me to answer your questions, maybe we could get to the bottom of this, West said. When I look at the GDP numbers, which have gone from 4.1 percent and went to 1.9 percent, then it was a 1.7 percent. It got revised down just about a month ago to 1.3 percent. Weve got numbers that are all over the place. We dont understand really the direction this economy is going.

West can sure make the MSM wimps squirm.
Well in a sense. They simply reduced the total number of unemployed to make the unemployment number improve.
The answer is simple. The polling people also did the UE figures.
Wish white guilt had elected someone like Mr. West instead of the POC we ended up with as our first black president.
Thanks Vintage Freeper for posting this:
I do, too!
If only we had a couple hundred Col. Wests.
The guy from CNBC really became unhinged. What a jerk

Thanks President West!
He was a total jerk. Col. West epitomized class.
Why do we allow our government to openly lie to us using the concocted number that is paraded around every month? It isn’t a true measure.
The U6 unemployment rate is far closer to reality (it is at 14.7% - unchanged from the previous month).
Would'a been nice for the whole Nation.
If I were Romney I would make a point in this debate of saying that he would switch to using the U6 numbers and abolish all the other methods. That all the other measurements are fundamentally dishonest and a willful attempt by the US Goverment to conceal the truth from the people.
Someone has to break this chain of lies and Romney would get huge credit if he were to do it from just about all voters
Is anyone jumping on this..they lied..
Thanks for this thread.
If we are ever going to be able to have politicians who are realistic about taxpayer dollars, we must challenge the Liberals on Wall Street.
Liberals work on Wall Street and then donate to anti-business politicians.
Rep. West did the right thing by challenging CNBC Liberal Tyler Mathisen as highlighted by this quote from the article:
” - - - Mathisen took issue with Wests claim and argued that the integrity of the administrations data was not in question.
If you would stop yelling in my ear and allow me to answer your questions, maybe we could get to the bottom of this, West said. - - - “
IMHO, EVERYTHING that the damned Federal Government does and says is ALWAYS in question, ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
