One thing that was impressive in 2008 was the amount of Obama ads on the radio -- this more than TV I believe is effective because we are a captive audience in a car. This should be much less expensive, and all the McCain robocalls in 2008 were irritating and not effective.
Romney/Ryan needs to spend ad money on radio.
I agree. I listen to far more radio than watch TV.
I hear ads on the radio from RR all of the time.
he does.
Which state? I’m in Virginia, and one would think we’d be one of the top advertising targets.
My drive time to work is about 40 minutes round trip, but so far I haven’t heard any Romney/Ryan ads. Maybe some by outside groups. Only one Obama for America ad. In 2008 it seemed like I heard tons of Obama for America ads.
I live in NH. Romney is filling the radio air waves with ads. NH will go for Romney.
They do here in Florida Panhandle...........
I’m in MA and I hear Romney’s commercials all day (for the NH audience).
I’ve been stunned that on a country station where i live
in northeast ohio-which is the most vulnerable-plays
all obama ads all the time. And they’re pretty good ads too.
Very heavy anti-Josh Mandel too. Seems like a mistake
too me.
Obama ads on the AM radio band, where all the conservative shows are, are destined to make those who are against him become even more desirous of voting against him.
Listening to the radio causes people to think because they have to engage their higher thinking receptors directly connected to the logic centers of the brain. (Hint: that is why liberals do so badly on AM.)
When someone who thinks they are a liberal spends much time listening to conservative talk, their conservative receptors begin to grow, with or without conservative campaign ads.
I think that Obama's ads that are playing on TV during soap opera's are a good thing. Ads placed 'ad nauseum' during soap opera time will guarantee a response of revulsion. Women DO NOT LIKE their soaps being interrupted.
He is. They seem to run every 5-20 minutes on WRKO 680 Boston.
Why on a Boston station? Because NH, a crucial swing state,
is right next door. Ads on stations like that have been
running non stop.
“Thanks to Barack Obama, things are really looking up here
in New Hampshire. Things like unemployment...gas prices...”
I concur on robocalls, but radio is all about demographics. The PACS should be hitting Country stations and talk-radio with “get out the vote” messages. They need to hit sports programming with more thoughtful, logical (stats) reasons to vote Romney/Ryan.
Hit the hip-hop stations with offers for free Air Jordans to be given away (in person only) 50 miles outside of the city. Then have a single slow line to hand them out.
Giveaway on Nov. 6th of course.
I thought I was alone in my thinking on this. I drove across Northeast Ohio from the PA border to Toledo a couple of weeks ago. Heard about a half dozen Obama radio ads...not a single one for Romney/Ryan. I thought it odd, especially in must-win Ohio.
You’re right! I understand that radio ads are running in the contested states, but they should be running in every state. Missouri, for example, is in the midst of upsetting some dem apple carts. Any help would be appreciated.
Yep, that was my take on things when I drove through the area a couple of weeks ago. Really bothered me. I thought that maybe the campaign was holding off on the ad buys until closer to Election Day, but from what you write, it doesn’t sound as though the situation has changed.
