Time Warner Cable just axed the Ovation channel, and the cable giant threatens more channels may get trimmed in the coming months. But Time Warner Cable warns subscribers in an online notice today that there’s no guarantee it will continue to carry several other channels whose contracts expire soon including mainstays such as E!, Lifetime, and Starz, and a bevy of international services ... Former Vice President Al Gore’s Current TV also remains in danger, although it survived a possible year-end purge. Other channels Time Warner Cable identified as being under review include Encore, Music Choice, News 12, NHL Network, ShopNBC, Smithsonian HD, and Style Network.

Heretofore, I thought we were going to receive 600+ channels.
I doubt any cable company would drop ‘mainstays’ from their line-ups. Those are their money makers. That is just tough talk for the coming negotiations.

I believe content will go online, a la carte. People will pay only for what they actually consume. Cable and satellite companies are in the buggy whip business.
I think the concept of "channels" is becoming obsolete. People watch what they feel like off Netflix, Amazon Prime, or whatever, and do so when they feel like watching it, not when the "channel" decides to schedule it.
Geeez, and I so love to channel surf!

I don’t watch 80 percent of what’s offered anyway, so I guess it would be good to pay for only what we want.

It is rather like telephone companies and landlines. I noticed my ‘local’ phone book it about 1/2 the size it was 5 years ago.
Four years ago, I dropped my landline ($25/month) for cell (pre-paid averages me about $6/month).
I noticed recently that the landline company now offers local landline for $9 per month.

Cable has been lose customers nationwide, but they still periodically (like twice a year) raise their rates a few dollars.
Am glad that Time Warner Cable did one decent thing and dropped that sack of garbage Current TV..or should I call them the Al Jazeera Network..the other channels they are thinking about dropping I dont care about anyway
That is what DVR is for. We do need more memory for DVRs.
I like watching.Stop and start watching a bit later in another room.Or a few hours later. Doing this with multiple shows as the mood strikes you.Wife comes in stop watching your guy show,start watching your “couple” show. You go to answer the phone from work she watches her “chick” show for 10 minutes. Harder to do with streaming.
I don’t see sports moving away from premium cable channels either.

The problem is foresee with Intel offering cable TV is that it will be over the Internet.

Except: As cable companies lose TV income, they will up the prices on ISP/Internet service as it will take more bandwidth to deliver Intel’s content.
Of course, cellular could develop fast enough and become less expensive and more competitive. Right now, 5gb per month is about the maximum cellular service load. Anything over that increases cost significantly. Cable offers 200gb for about the same price.

Unfortunately, 150 are shopping Channels, 150 are religious channels, 100 are in languages no one understands, 50 are part time and 100 are the language of the invading Aztlan army...
That leaves about 50 most of us might want to actually watch.
I wouldn't mind paying half as much as I do now, and watch the 20 or so channels I actually want to watch regularly.
