LOL.

I love the words, especially in Greek, which is my ancestry . I feel I’ll have the chance to voice the sentiment, but would like to get it right, and think it right. If you know what I mean.

So, it is Mo Lon (mowlawn) but could be laVay or laBay. I kind of like La Vay.

Thanks to you!

At the Battle of Thermopylae, Xerxes I of Persia, with 600,000 men, met King Leonidas I of Sparta, with only 300 men. Leonidas had predicted the outcome of the battle, and so he chose only men with sons old enough to take over their family duties. Xerxes promised to spare the lives of the 300 Spartans if they would only lay down their weapons. The Spartans refused, shouting “Molon Labe” (”Come and Get Them”), and held the narrow mountain pass of Thermopylae for days. All the Spartans were eventually killed, but they inflicted such damage to the Persian army (20,000-40,000 dead) that Xerxes was unable to utterly conquer the Greek Peninsula. This act of heroism did nothing less than save Western civilization. The world that you know is due in no small part to those brave men who gave their lives 2,500 years ago. Today there lies a plaque at the site of the battle. It reads: “Go tell the Spartans, passerby, that here, by Spartan law, we lie.” John Ruskin called this epitaph the noblest words ever uttered by man. The story of Thermopylae is very similar to the Alamo. Travis, Crockett, and Bowie considered their lives less important than the freedom of their people. As Otto Scott said, “Ours are the same tests and crises that our fathers and forefathers encountered.” Our people face the threat of extinction today, and unless we count our lives as less important than the lives of our children, our people will perish. Sic Semper Tyrannis.

Setup for the upcoming theme in this battle. 2A supporters will equal violent secessionist, and we need gun control to stop them.

Wow! 300.

I knew there was a reason I was drawn to those two seemingly simple words. They felt like a battle cry, and they Were!

Thanks for that uplifting link.

Hey - it appears to me that the handgun on that fellow's hip holds more than seven rounds.

And he is wearing the latest in low-profile bulletproof vest-wear.

Thank you for that post. Not for my edification, but for history.

By the way, I parse the term more as “come and get them,” as in ‘get’ or ‘receive,’ rather that “come and take them.”

Anyhow, I am wise only that I know that I do not know.

Mentioned ‘Molon Labe’ to our town’s Greek cafe owner this past Sat. (She and husband successfully own/run 2 cafes in the county).

She said ‘Lah Veh.’
She didn’t believe me when I tried to tell her when ‘Molon Labe’ is written here, we spell it (Labe) with a ‘b.’
She said ‘no, a ‘v.’

I just couldn’t make myself understood with the ‘b’ spelling. Or maybe she was just correcting me. But I have no control over how we spell it here!

I haven’t seen ‘Molon Labe’ outside of Free Republic, so neither has she.
She thought I was talking about past Greek history, and totally understood when I said the phrase is currently being used over gun owner-ship.

Well, there will be another day - she and husband are hard workers, successful, and STAUNCH conservatives - !
And I will tell her about Free Republic!

Google images - Molon Labe and you will see massive amounts of stuff. I particularly like the hoodie with the Spartan helmet.

‘________see massive amounts of stuff.’

I was just on ‘Cafe Press’ and saw plenty of ‘Molon Labe’ shirts and other items.
Could be wrong, but think there’s been ‘Molon Labe’ shirts available for quite awhile.
Altho I know merchandise can crop up overnight.
