The Republican fear of being primaried has infected the Lone Star State at high levels. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the second-ranking Senate Republican, is going to lengths to preempt a primary challenge from the right by sticking close to his colleague, tea party-backed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has been in the chamber for all of a month. The wise-guy joke going around Austin: Cruz is the only freshman in Congress with two votes.
How inflamed are conservatives looking at four more years of Obama? One longtime Texas congressman even said he expects every GOP member of the delegation to face some kind of primary next year.

Isn't it amazing who the real leaders are. Not the go-along, get-along compromisers, but the hard-line, true believers. Yet McConnell supported Greyson over Paul and Cornyn supported Dewhurst over Cruz and Specter over Toomey and Crist over Rubio. And remember Specter wanted Santorum's endorsement when he was trying to get re-elected, and DeMint's endorsement of Toomey six years later brought Specter down.
It is the conservatives who have the real influence in the Senate, and their influence is growing. And neither the republicans nor the democrats like it (unless they're trying to get re-elected of course)!
Anyone who think Cornyn is a moderate has a screw loose. He would have to move far to the right to be moderate.

FYI, from the perspective of many on FR, Cornyn and Karl Marx are the same person.
Anybody good there who can run against him?
Gotta love it! Cruz possesses an ability called leadership which Texans (and may of the rest of us elsewhere in America) can appreciate.
My poor sister is marooned in Shelia Jackson Lee's district in north Houston. She tells me that her and most of her neighbors consider Ted Cruz to be their sole representaive in Washington.
The left has gone nuts.
They figured out that Rubio isn’t the real threat I guess.
A conservative replacement for Cornyn would be welcome!! And, it would give Texas a real edge in the Senate with TWO genuine conservatives!!
If there’s another Ted Cruz out there, it’s time for him to make his move!!
He (Cornball) only does that during campaign season. After the election, he quickly lurches back to the left.
FWIW...I've called his office a few times, recently, and have started off with..."Thank God for Ted Cruz"... ;)
Cornyn and the GOPe are getting Cruzed. My vote for Ted is the one vote I’m most proud of from the last election.
All of a sudden I get responses to my emails after years of silence!!!”
I have always gotten a response from him, it was just that the response paragraph his clerks chose to use had nothing to do with my question. The last one did respond to my question however.
Sat through a speech he gave last Saturday night at a Lincoln dinner and happened to come face to face with him on the way out. Told him that regardless of what he said or did, I would never vote for him. He can’t undo the positions he’s taken over the last many years in a year and one-half of campaigning. Even if he could, I still wouldn’t trust him for 6 more years. Texas surely can do better.
