Veterans are receiving letters from VA prohibiting the ownership or purchase of firearms

How would you feel if you received a letter from the U.S. Government informing you that because of a physical or mental condition that the government says you have it is proposing to rule that you are incompetent to handle your own financial affairs?

What if that letter also stated: “A determination of incompetency will prohibit you from purchasing, possessing, receiving, or transporting a firearm or ammunition. If you knowingly violate any of these prohibitions, you may be fined, imprisoned, or both pursuant to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, Pub.L.No. 103-159, as implemented at 18, United States Code 924(a)(2).”?

That makes is sound like something right from a documentary on a tyrannical dictatorship somewhere in the world. Yet, as I write this I have a copy of such a letter right in front of me. It is being sent by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of America’s heroes. In my capacity as Executive Director of the United States Justice Foundation (USJF) I have been contacted by some of these veterans and the stories I am getting are appalling.

The letter provides no specifics on the reasons for the proposed finding of incompetency; just that is based on a determination by someone in the VA. In every state in the United States no one can be declared incompetent to administer their own affairs without due process of law and that usually requires a judicial hearing with evidence being offered to prove to a judge that the person is indeed incompetent. This is a requirement of the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that states that no person shall “… be deprived of life, .............

Someone looking to feed the bottom feeders? Maybe angling for money from causing lawsuits and seeking kickbacks?

I earned that right and so did thousands of others.

At the risk of seeming nit-picky, I must respectfully disagree. You did not earn that right. You always had that right as it was a God-given right. You served to protect the God-given rights of American citizens to keep and bear arms. And thank you for doing so, sir!

Guess it depends upon your point of view.
You are absolutely correct - however - I ALWAYS pay for what I get if I am required to or not.

PTSD has many faces.
PTSD does not “necessarily” mean you have gone over the deep end.
It could just be that you loose some of your memory, or just become depressed but being depressed doesn’t mean that you are unable or unstable.

Unless you have PTSD you don’t understand PTSD.

Most folks do not take the time to research candidates for President. I do.

The weird thing about Obama was when I began looking into his background, information began to be scrubbed off the internet. This was in March 2008.

I brought some information to Free Republic at that time and in April 2008 my computer was hacked and files stolen. My nephew tracked the hack to a Senate office building in Washington, D.C.

Over the next 10 - 11 months my computer was hacked three more times. The last time was right after the inauguration and originated in Washington, again. (The two inbetween hacks occurred during the campaign and originated from Chicago.)

I had found evidence that Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.A. and that he was a communist.

People didn’t want to believe, instead relying upon the MSM. Those media folks have been threatened; I’ve even persuaded a couple of them to admit to me that’s the case.

The odd thing about this situation is how many people are still expecting to be saved by someone else. It doesn’t work that way.

“To live as free responsible citizens”, as you so aptly put it, means we do it ourselves.

Oh, and I’ve been answering my front door with a loaded shotgun nearby since 2008, just to be careful.

Anarch-tyranny is the term and concept you are looking for. Everyone here should be familiar with it, we are living it in many ways.

One of the things that pisses me off about this is that the army has made a BIG point about convincing suicidal soldiers that there is no stigma for seeking mental health treatment. And now this?

It is already occurring in civilian arena. Friends father was dying from cancer, father was notified by state of Illinois that his FOID had been cancelled.
He was informed that weapons and ammunition needed to be disposed of in approved manner, never was able to determine who, what or why he was determined to be a risk.

Only explanation I could think of was that Illinois cross referenced his HIPPA records with gun DB. Supposed to be Illegal for either DB, but it is Illinois.

Wise choice, Satin. I pack because there was once a time I did not do such in going to my door. Call it a lesson learned. Today is much different from yesterday, and my pocket always has protection inside for what is outside.

So they are saying you can be incompetent to run your own finances and incompetent to have a gun and so forth, but still competent to stand trial for violating the Brady Law (assuming they intend to try you before fining or imprisoning you). Wonderful.

No but it sure sounds like the VA has the control right now. I guess you think your little statement is going to change what is going on.....maybe you are the complete idiot. I see you are really changing things....ROTFLMAO.

Here are a few clues -the VA is under the federal Executive; The right to bear arms e.g. the right to defend your life and property is a God given right NOT a government granted privilege; rights can not be taken away without due process.

I've been saying that Obamacare will lead to gun control.
It WILL lead to gun control. The people who are really mental will not be the target.
