And, there is another reason - US Navy experience back in the late 50's. I was aboard a destroyer during a hurricane. A man went overboard, even though he had a rope tied around his waist. He was a strong man, good swimmer, but we couldn't find him, mostly due to the weather.
The young lady in this story was hurt badly - could barely keep her head above water - yet, miraculously they were able to find and rescue her... while the odds for doing so are quite high.
Fact is - I don't think cruise companies could convince me to 'go on a cruise' even if they offered me hundreds of thousands of dollars to do so. Oh, I might bite if they offered 10 million - paid in cash prior to leaving port. But even then I'd demand an on-board personal helicopter, with pilot, be present for my personal instant use at all times - before ever boarding. So of course, I'll never be on one of those scows.
I know you mean well but it’s inexcusable that someone should spend two hours in the water while the staff interrogates witnesses. Better to immediately investigate the man-overboard report than to let someone die.
Cruise ships are getting a deservedly bad reputation due to their apparent contempt for the lives of their passengers and their contempt for the lives of people in distress at sea.
You have to go back to 2007 to find a really good story of a cruise ship (Dawn Princess?) going all-out to save the life of a passenger. They helped a little girl off the coast of Mexico with the help of the USS Ronald Reagan.
I’m astounded that a drunk person with severe ortho injuries can stay afloat in the ocean for a couple hours. That is pretty impressive in my view.
I’ve had good experience on 4 cruises, 2 on Carnival.
And all this bad pub has gotten them offering screaming low price deals.
Yeah, the bartender forced her to drink? You have to be quite a dumn ass to fall off a cruise ship. So she's pathetic. Her fiance lets her walk around alone while she's drunk? so much for the puppy love. He's a jerk. Then a cruise line refuses to stop even though there are eyewitnesses seeing her fall? The woman could have died. The woman will prevail in the lawsuit as she should simply because she could have died as a result of them not stopping the vessel.
It takes a long time to turn a ship around.
This seems like a case that trial lawyers would love. Lot of money to be won for the woman’s stupid dangerous self-injurious actions.
Blame the nearest Republican or business with money. Never blame the idiot.
Thailand?
Siam?
Ms Badley oughta be thankful she didn’t end up more badly!
Alcohol is lighter than water.
if the Captain refused to turn the ship
Do you have any idea how long it takes a ship of that size to stop, let alone turn around?
The fact that the drunk broad didn't drown and is alive to sue tells me that appropriate steps were taken to save her .......
I’m not sure that a plaintiff’s lawyer is a good source for an objective report of what happened. The story *might* be true, at least in part.
MEMO TO SELF: Next time let the drunken _itch drown!

UP YOUR’S!!!!!!!!
Obviously you’re living in your parents basement and don’t understand sarcasm when you read it. I would explain it to you further but I’m all out of puppets and crayons.
Or the typical alcoholic, who is always in denial about their excessive drinking.
I don’t accept sarcasm, ever!!
If you don’t mean it don’t write or say it!
i’m a mean bastard!
