In 1975:
1.You could buy an airline ticket and fly without ever showing an ID.
2.You could buy cough syrup without showing an ID.
3.You could buy and sell gold coins without showing an ID
4.You could buy a gun without showing an ID
5.You could pull as much cash out of your bank account without the bank filing a report with the government.
6.You could get a job without having to prove you were an American.
7.You could buy cigarettes without showing an ID
8.You could have a phone conversation without the government knowing who you called and who called you.
9. You could open a stock brokerage account without having to explain where the money came from.
10. You could open a Swiss bank account with ease. All Swiss banks were willing and happy to open accounts for Americans.
There are thousands of other examples.The monitoring is in place all that is required from here is the clampdown.
The differences, between now and 1975 in the business sector are even more prevalent. In recent years, in industry after industry regulations and prohibitions have been poured on top of free markets. It doesn't look like things will get any better in years to come. Eventually, the economy will suffocate and collapse, if this continues.

In the mountains of western NC, during hunting season boys could take their hunting rifles to school on the school bus. They left them on the bus all day so they could hunt immediately after school.
When I was about 7 or 8, my parents got a new station wagon. It was white, with a red vinyl interior , and had seat belts! I remember distinctly Dad telling us to always use them, and how they would help keep us safe in case of an accident.
When I wondered if there should be a law mandating seat belt use, my Dad was quick to give me the lecture about freedom, and how the government could give you information, but they could never force you to do the right thing- this was America and you were free to make the choice or not.
I remember - and st is something the nanny state has taken from parents- feeling so happy that my parents were concerned enough about our safety to buy a car with seat belts for us.
We worked. I’ve been paying taxes since I was 13. I mowed a huge yard for a man who lived by the country club and it would take me most of a whole day. I believe I got $10 each time. We threw a paper route for pocket change.

I don't remember people who didn't smoke falling about in exaggerated fits of coughing like you see today.

My friend bought 4 or 5 M1 Garands for himself, me, and 3 others around 1980. Mail order!
Still have mine, though it’s been worked up a bit since then. So do at least 2 others. The 4th owner passed away a couple of years ago and the 5th guy hasn’t been heard from in a long time.
I long for the days that firearms, at least rifles, could be mail-ordered.
