Not good to make them dependent and ill-suited for the wild.
All animals - wild or domestic - are welfare queens. Makes sense, doesn’t it? We, too, are part of the animal kingdom.
I know a man who got too close to a herd of “tame” deer. He survived but he has scars to prove he was attacked.

A friend of mine is an outdoor writer and every year he runs a story of someone doing this and the consequences of it. They are feeding does when a buck shows. A buck through a sliding door, a doe through a plate glass window, a doe in a pool, while I was in Jacksonville Florida a man was gored by a buck and suffered a lacerated kidney, he cut its throat while pinned down for over 15 minutes. There are no shortages of these stories.
Moreover, they lose their fear of man and become easy targets for hunters; probably the opposite of what they want.
basically, it is not smart to mess with wild animals. As Roger Miller noted, “You drive around with a tiger in your car.”
I want to be the first to welcome our new, deer overlords.
But seriously, a friend seems to have gotten lyme disease from ticks from “friendly deer” who frequented her back yard like it was a salad bar.
And if they are feeding deer, won’t they soon be indirectly feeding predators that eat deer? Just wonderin’
His local Game Warden will be writing tickets as it is illegal to feed game during seasons. It is called baiting.
What lovely, tender things are good intentions. Like the first little green shoots of puncture thorns in the Spring.
No, I don’t think an animal in the wild is a welfare queen.
Great numbers of animals live on vast tracts of developed or undeveloped public land, to be sure, and many live on privately-owned ground too.
But unless someone is providing feed or shelter for animals, birds or even fish, they almost all in fact are working terribly, terribly hard to stay alive.
Indeed their situation is more akin to being constantly at war, with the elements, other wild beasts, and with human beings, than it is like depending on welfare.
Manure is the very, very least of their concerns. Deer will devour every bit of landscaping you plant that feels tasty to them...and it appears that they are already friendly to that urban neighborhood......not good!
But on the other hand, it’s apparent the neighbors are ok with this so who am I to judge.........

Given that these deer are parading between housing lots, it's likely a haven for enviroweenies..........

One day, we will be reading of this poor man’s demise. The deer WILL kill him. Or at least injure him, someday. That was pretty alarming to see him turn his back on that well antlered little buck he called LUMPY.
Yeah, deer are so frightened of humans that they birth their young ‘uns on front porches around here. One was in an elderly neighbor’s garage not long ago and she still has the bruises to show from the encounter. Good thing it only bumped into her or it could have been much worse. Real deer aren’t cartoon Bambis

I imagine the county jobsworths are lining up his punishments even as we type.
