>>Does everybody know what HSBC might stand for, so that it does not need to be clarified in any article?
I believe although it started off as an acronym, the official name is now HSBC so it doesn’t stand for anything. Think KFC.
All these idiots are doing, by holding other people’s money like that, is guaranteeing a possible slow run on the bank. Why should people keep their money in that bank, if they cannot get whatever portion they want back from that bank?
This crap also highlights a drawback of fractional-reserve banking: there is not enough cash on hand to cover all accounts.
Close the account
Demand the balance in cash.
A check goes by electronic transfer to a bank and the bank prints the amount of money on my account which is a digital piece of paper. I go to store and use bank card and money electronically goes to the grocery store. Where is the actual money? It isn’t anywhere.
The whole world uses electronic money.
One time, I put a check for $75,000 dollars in the bank and the manager came out and said he couldn’t give me that money. Told him I didn’t want the cash, just put it in the bank like it was on the deposit ticket. That was a branch bank and they didn’t have that much cash. Makes one wonder how much money a branch bank keeps on hand.
HSBC Holdings plc is a British multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in London, England,
tax?!?
try “confiscate”.
Because of the breach in our debit card at Target, Chase has limited our transactions to a hundred dollars...purchase, and withdrawal. We need a larger amount, we have to confirm (i.e. phone) or go into the bank.
In the fwiw department, that sucks.

If it's in the bank it has more than likely already been taxed.
Confiscate, is the word you're looking for.
Sure, it's a British bank, originally known as the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation...today colloquially known as the Highly Sh--ty Banking Corporation. :)
Its already here. A few times last month I had to schedule ahead to withdraw $1000.
“Because I am closing my account” would be the proper response.
Just tell them to give you a cashiers check for all of it.
Get ready. Prepare! There’s a plague spreading around the world. There will be famine and riots. Hundreds of millions of people are doomed.
It’s the plague of improper uses of uncommon acronyms by illiterates!
I wouldn’t know how much a branch holds but about 6 years ago I withdrew 3500 for a used car and they had to “check” first to see if it was doable. It was.
I would suggest going late in the day for anything over 1500. This ensures they have enough for the workday.
I am taking a Charlie Sheen style weekend.
“Its already here. A few times last month I had to schedule ahead to withdraw $1000.”

Is that a small rural branch? Maybe it is their practice to have limited cash on hand. My standard withdrawal is $1000
per month. That is more then enough for my family each month.
My bank is two hours away, so I would hate to go more often
for banking and major shopping.
Last week two entire armored cars FULL of CASH went from the Miami Federal Reserve to the Boston Federal reserve.. Maybe this happens all the time. I don’t know. What I do know is plastic bags of cash that filled those armored cars got sent to the Boston Federal Reserve.
Anyone know why this happens and how often?
The average branch has about $20K-40K in it on any given day.
Most bank branches want a day’s notice if you plan to withdraw more than $5K in cash.
We all know darn well that Obama and the democrats are itching to get their filthy hands on 401K and IRA money.
To them it’s just not fair that so many extremist, Bitter Clinger, Tea Party types have retirement accounts and money in the bank when so many of their victim group voters have to squeak by on welfare, SNAP, free money from the Earned Income Tax Credit program, Section 8 housing, Obamacare subsidies, etc.
If you can prove you're you, why is there such an arbitrary limit on what YOU can withdraw of YOUR money? My advice: Change Banks.
