Poorly educated and lied to, Blacks at UCLA call correcting their grammar and punctuation racist
Coach is Right ^ | 2/10/14 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

It’s hard to figure out what to make of the people in this story. Should these people be laughed at or pitied?

Recently a group of 25 self-described “Students of Color” held a sit-in to support poor English writing skills. They whined about the “racism” of being offered constructive criticism of their lack of grammar, spelling and punctuation abilities.

As products of dysfunctional government schools, many if not all of them have little or no writing skill. Many of them don’t know they have no writing skills. They have been lied to and had their heads patted so often by paternalistic liberals they can no longer recognize the truth about their shortcomings.

We can expect little else from students who have never been dealt with honestly.

What makes this situation still more ridiculous is that the target of their protest was...

Yeah, well I had to work with boob from Haiti who by himself could be blamed for the condition of his country. He said he was smarter than me because he spoke French. I then proceeded in French to tell him I knew everything he had said about me. Qu’elle surprise!

Lol. I was walking one of my job sites when I heard, "El es el jefe. El es un bandido perezoso de meirda gordo."

To which I responded, "Soy el jefe. Usted dice el ingles cuando usted habla de mi o usted puede conseguir la caca y quitarse mi jobsite. Capishe?"

One of them apologized and one said, "No Habla Italian!". I had to smile. A few days later, "El Gordo jefe hablas espanol!" was posted in a porta-potty.

Person out in the surf drowning. Another person swims out to help but rather than help, the drowning victim pulls both of them under. This is happening across this country and this administration is cheering on the sidelines as both go under saying, “What difference does it make?”

White people have to meet these standards, but because you are black, you don’t because you are “aggrieved minority students.”

And the process by which you would become un - aggrieved is...?

So did these clowns get into UCLA through “affirmative action”? Sure sounds like a quota system to me.

He said many of those have been re-written already.

That's simply horrific.

My mother, God rest her soul, used to always correct our grammar and speech. My siblings & I HATED IT!!!

Now, in our 50's, we often talk about how thankful we are to have had a mother that cared enough to do that.

You understand that we are talking about students in a Ph.D. program in education.

It appears to be more predominate in Blacks but when my youngest daughter had gotten a couple of A’s on some English papers and wanted a ‘reward’ (or at least some recognition - I came up ‘short’ in heaping praise) and after my obligatory ‘An A is no less than what I expect’ I kind of eyeballed it and there were some glaring punctuation and spelling errors (I say glaring because a misspelled word kind of ‘jumps off the paper’ at me) and I did contact the teacher and asked why an ‘A’ with all the mistakes....I was very bluntly told the score was for the work and presentation, it had nothing to do with spelling or grammar AND I should be encouraging her, not nit picking....

And this was in Fairfax County VA about 25 or so years ago.

Think of all the non-protected students that went elsewhere because morons were admitted to fulfill the Utopian egalitarian fantasy of Liberalism.

Facts don’t count, just feelings and quotas.

I agree. They should NOT be there at all. The University of California system, BY LAW is only supposed to take the top 12.5% academically. And there have been cases of “reverse discrimination” where sometimes by enough bitching “the public at large” is able to bring things back into line when the “affirmative action” gimmes get too ridiculous. It’s obvious the pendulum has once again gone far off kilter from where it should be. It’s one thing to give a kid from a poor rural background where there are few opportunities to take AP courses and the like, and it’s one thing if the kid has good recommendations and is just a little below what the average academic intake is — but to be this far “outlier” is insane. Let them improve and take remedial in the Community Colleges, which take ANYONE age 18 or over (or sometimes even under if they get school’s permission and have their HS’s permission) - that’s what they were designed for. A catch all for every one and anyone. You’ll find kids who ARE university ready some times going there to save money and get distribution requirements out of the way, and then going to UC or the Cal state system (which take the top 1/3 academically.)

These dummies should be EMBARRASSED to parade their ignorance. Pity the poor Asian student who got screwed out of a place at UC because somehow THOSE minority students stack up at the top and since there “too many” of them, their places get taken away and given to these dumb bozos for the sake of “diversity.”

“A hostile campus climate has been the norm for Students of Color in this class throughout the quarter as our epistemological and methodological commitments have been repeatedly questioned by our classmates and our instructor. The barrage of questions by white colleagues and the grammar ‘lessons’ by the professor have contributed to a hostile class climate.”

This is a stupid controversy.

Speakers of Cockney dialect in the UK never complained that at university they were expected to write and speak the King's English.

The complainers have a point: Cockney dialect and Black American dialect aren't "bad English" - they are dialects of Standard English.

However, there needs to be an agreed standard for mutual intelligibility.

Mastery of the standard is a necessary skill.

Doctoral [sic] of Education (Ed.D.) in Social Justice Education

"Social Justice Education is an interdisciplinary concentration of study with a focus on social diversity and social justice as they apply to formal and non-formal [sic] educational systems. It uses and generates research and theory to understand the sociocultural and historical contexts and dynamics of specific manifestations of oppression (e.g., ableism, classism, heterosexism, racism, religious oppression, transgender oppression and sexism) in social systems...

Did you notice this gem?

The goal of the SJE doctoral concentration is to prepare scholars and educational leaders that can promote social diversity and justice in educational settings through the development of theoretical and practical knowledge, empirical research, and the use of effective social justice education practices.

The use of the pronoun "that" rather than the proper pronoun "who"—as things, such as a computer, refrigerator, or cattle(?) cannot be awarded academic degrees—implies that a thing as well as a person can promote their goals. . . or are these people just grammatically challenged?

Perhaps this goes along with the catering company worker that filed suit against its employer in Oregon last week because it did not want to be referred to by any gender designating pronoun? Pronounism oppression?

“a few paragraphs from the newspaper”

One of Today’s newspapers???

Spelling, grammar, and word usage (i.e., snuck etc.) is not too good these days. Spell checker will mix up its, it’s, and some of the different “toooo’s”, and something new each day.

But even so, you’ve got a good point.
