New Mexico's 2014 state legislative session ended yesterday and all "gun control" measures introduced during session died thanks to grassroots opposition.
HB 44 - FIREARM TRANSFER ACT, HR 3 - PROHIBIT FIREARMS IN HOUSE, and SR 1 - PROHIBIT FIREARMS IN SENATE all were stopped cold during this session. Thanks to all the good people who voiced their opposition to these measures by visiting their representatives, emailing them (26,913 emails sent just using our page), faxing them, calling them... They lobbied the governor's office intensively. There's so many people to thank, like the New Mexico Gun Owners Association (NMGOA) and Del Norte Gun Club, that it would take pages to praise everyone's efforts. Thanks to Governor Susana Martinez (R) for concentrating on the budget and not calling HB 44. Thanks to representatives like Yvette Herrell (R) who took a firm and vocal stand against the 2014 "gun control" measures.
During election years (this year), the legislature has "just enough time to deal with the state's budget" during the short 30-day session, and HB 44, HR 3, and SR 1 were not germane to the singular purpose of the budgetary agenda.
House Bill 44 (see also here) was dangerous legislation that took "the first step towards criminalizing ALL private transfers of firearms," most likely would've led to requiring gun registration by all gun owners, would've been ineffective because crazy people and criminals will never register their guns or purchase them legally, would've needlessly suppressed gun shows ("only 1.7 percent [of criminals] obtained a firearm at a gun show"), and finally was useless legislation because "Current laws are not being enforced."
SR 1 and HR 3, both attempts to ban firearms in the capitol building, were not germane to the budget, and belie many legislators' unfounded fear of their own constituents. These resolutions just prove that many legislators don't want their constituents to be empowered. These legislators want to infringe on the rights of citizens to protect themselves; their families, friends, and communities; and their nation from criminals, the mentally insane, and tyranny.
The defeat of New Mexico "gun control" legislation proves that if citizens organize at the grassroots level, engage in the democratic process by contacting their elected representatives, they can directly support or oppose legislation effectively.
Good for New Mexico. You can continue to be my second most favoritest state now (like you were worried.)

The best way for anyone to protect themselves from criminals is to arm themselves and learn self defense. Passing laws won’t do it, and hiring more police won’t do it. Get armed, and get responsible for your own safety.

I see you know your demography. We've also had an influx of libtards from the NW and NY. It's so bad there are Sotheby's real estate signs all over Taos and Santa Fe. These mamby-bamby imports live in a dream-world, want mommy Obama to tell them what to do, and are generally limousine libs.
But rural and old New Mexico (even in the cities) residents are getting organized -- big-time. We've had enough. Word from Santa Fe is legislators have never seen 27,000 emails on one bill.
Please help get the word out so people in other states can get some encouragement.

No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.
I was following HB-44 - it didn’t get anywhere, not even a committee hearing, since it wasn’t germane to financial matters or placed on the Governor’s call.
