NASA-funded study: The way to save Western civilization from collapse is communism
The Daily Caller ^ | 19 Mar 2014 | Michael Bastasch

If the United States wants to avoid falling like the Roman Empire, it must avoid “overconsumption” and distribute resources equally, according to a study funded by NASA.

“The fall of the Roman Empire, and the equally (if not more) advanced Han, Mauryan, and Gupta Empires, as well as so many advanced Mesopotamian Empires, are all testimony to the fact that advanced, sophisticated, complex, and creative civilizations can be both fragile and impermanent,” reads the NASA-funded report published in the Ecological Economics journal.

“Two important features seem to appear across societies that have collapsed,” the study adds. “The stretching of resources due to the strain placed on the ecological carrying capacity and the economic stratification of society into Elites and Masses.”

The NASA study uses a Human And Nature DYnamical (HANDY) formula “to provide a general framework that allows carrying out ‘thought experiments’ for the phenomenon of collapse and to test changes that would avoid it.” In other words, the model only takes into account general characteristics of fallen civilizations, and not the specifics.

What did the study find? That collapse is hard to avoid in unequal societies as “[e]lites grow and consume too much, resulting in a famine among Commoners that eventually causes the collapse of society.”

Limits on resources harm the working class, while the wealthy are largely insulated from the problem, meaning resources continue to be used without regard to the cost to society. For example, “an increase in vehicle fuel efficiency technology tends to enable increased per capita vehicle miles driven, heavier cars, and higher average speeds, which then negate the gains from the increased fuel-efficiency.”

NASA has lived way beyond its usefulness.

Yup, mission control has left the building and the spaced monkees are running the show, I guess fantasy is much easier than real science.

I remember when NASA flew experimental aircraft and launched spacecraft - ya know, Aeronautics and Space kind of stuff.

Adopting communism is the ONLY sure-fire way to cause the collapse, but close behind is progressives/closet commies sabotaging our current system into collapse.

Progressives = closet commies . . . I like that

Arguments made in this report are similar to those made by White House science czar John Holdren, who has suggested that government should limit the size of the population in order to keep the Earth from becoming unlivable

space is moving to private industry.

If private industry takes over and does NASA’s job better than NASA, where will all those government incompetents find a job?

They just didn’t do it right.
The way “we” intend to do it will be completely benevolent and it’ll work!

We have avowed communists as our government. Why do people have such a hard time admitting the truth?

It is hypocritical to go around accusing other governments of being communist.

We need to look after our own house.

As with everything else they wrongly believe, libs are the ultimate hypocrites on yet another subject. If they feel so strongly about this then they should be the first ones to give their wealth away followed by killing themselves to “save the planet” (or in this case the civilization). We’re waiting libs....put up or shut up.

The fact that NASA has the spare time and money to sit around and crank out policy papers regarding a predicted calamitous downfall of society indicates that it needs to be completely defunded and dissolved as a government agency. Period.

That's why rich thieves like Al Gore we be the first to go when the revolution comes.

Not by coincidence, Al Gore, and Zero, and their fellow criminals in the Demagogic Party (and that includes the authors of this phony study) have systematically conspired to create artificial limits on resources. Their goal is to free up the road system for their SUVs and limos while forcing the rest of us to take overloaded public transit systems. Thanks mandaladon.

The proverbial Road to Perdition. This is moronic drivel, and it only makes sense to those seeking the easist path to power, bribery. Unfortunately, it is our money they’re going to use, for people who won’t appreciate the sacrifices made to earn it, and who actually believe they’re entitled to it.
It provides power to those who engage in it, slavery to those who accept it, and guarantees not just social upheaval and bankruptcy, but in the end, bloody revolution. The innocents die with the guilty, and there’s only one way to prevent all this. NEVER go down the road of communism or socialism, and put those who advocate it on the hot seat, remove them from power if at all possible, and use the tools you have at your disposal to get them to admit publicly that they’re lying. It is not your best interests they have in mind, but their own. Probably not possible, but far better to make the effort now than to wait for the inevitable results.

Well Cuba, China and NK are showing the way. Well maybe not so much China since they’re sinking into the morass of Capitalism albeit somewhat slowly.
