Pay Boost for Congress Given High Priority
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 5 Apr 2014 | John Semmens

Calling the current $174,000 annual salary (not counting perks) an “injustice,” Representative James Moran (D-Virginia) vowed to “right this wrong.”

“Congress is like the board of directors of the largest economic entity in the world,” Moran contended. “With a GDP of over $16 trillion we preside over the distribution of more wealth than any other board of directors. We deserve a bigger piece of this pie.”

The Congressman suggested that “a salary of $2 million per year might be a good starting point. In total, that would only amount to around a billion per year share of our $16 trillion economy. That’s only a miniscule fraction of the whole.”

Moran also argued that “a fringe benefit of my proposed pay hike is that the pressure for us to sell our votes to lobbyists would be greatly reduced. We would finally be able to afford to pay for our own lunches, dinners, and vacations. Many would be able to self-finance their reelection campaigns. It’s a win-win for both us and the American people.”

The best thing this nation could ever do would be to base Congressional pay on a small percentage of the annual operating loss or surplus. Deficit spending would be soooo over. So Jim Moron, let’s start with you paying the Treasury $100 Million for the fiscal disaster produced by Congress during your term in office.

Nobody goes to congress for the pay check.
It’s the only job where people spend millions to get a job that pays thousands.

Even CNBC reported that Congress critters make “market crushing” returns on their investments due to (legal) insider trading.

... a salary of $2 million per year might be a good starting point ...

In addition, a bonus would be nice - say 2% of the cost of every piece of legislation we vote for plus 3% for each piece we sponsor. That would eliminate the onerous "graft" label that has dogged us for years.

That’s kind of what I think. If a congressional rep votes for a budget that is not balanced he forfeits his pay for the year. That would balance the budget in about ten minutes. But then they would probably just raise taxes, move stuff off budget and declare it balanced.

But the pay "ain't it". It is the perks, the favors, the kickbacks, the power, the money outside the pay, the arrogant posing that they are our masters and know vastly more than us peons. That describes the Morans/morons of the Congress.

Only a handful pass muster as reps of the people.

We should get a percentage of rap what they make “on the side”...eg Harry Reid.
