Leo Hindery Jr: the Man Behind Guns & Ammo Mag, Sportsman Channel is Democrat Fundraiser
AmmoLand Gun News
Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)- Leo Hindery Jr. is a Democrat-fundraiser and donor whose private equity firm owns InterMedia Outdoors, which publishes Guns & Ammo magazine and the Sportsman Channel.
His equity firm also publishes Rifle Shooter, Shooting Times, and Handguns.
According to Politico, Hindery personally contributed more than $1 million to the Democratic National Committee Campaign under [former Senate majority leader] Tom Daschles (D) leadership. He was a top fundraiser for Daschle and a top supporter of former Sen. John Edwards White House bid.
In November 2013, The New York Times listed Hindery, George Soros, and Rob Reiner, as part of a group of donors who signed a letter asking Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) to reform laws to make all state elections publicly funded. NYT then quoted Brigham Young University political scientist David B. Magleby as saying, These are the kinds of donors a Cuomo candidacy for presidency will need.
Earlier in 2013 the NYT asked Hindery his views on the reform of gun laws and he said: I believe in appropriate restrictionsthats just my personal view.

What is so wrong with reading a biased opinion of something? Do you read anything besides tech manuals?
You honestly believe you are enriched by reading tainted ‘unbaised’ opinions? Really?
Enriched, no, informed, yes. Are you that easily influenced by the written word?
That offer is old news. The Outdoor Channel is owned by Kroenke Sports Enterprises which is run by Republican Enos Stanley "Stan" Kroenke. You should correct both of your postings on this thread about that.
No, but why actually spend money on it. You can get a lot more breadth on a topic for a particular gun from the internet. You get no value added from a biased, manufacturer influenced gun writer. It isn’t a point about “the written word.” It is about paying for words that aren’t true. You must have written for a gun magazine or something.
Thanks for posting the info about his magazines and TV channels. As a “newbie”, I’ve been skimming those for info while at the local Walmart and have bought a few. I’ll have to be more alert in the future.
Do I remember correctly that there was an outrage a few months back when the Guns & Ammo came out with an editorial in favor of gun control or gun registration (same thing really)? If so, this explains why.
Thanks again.
No, I just enjoy reading gun magazines, wherever I am. I do not necessarily enjoy having to have a power supply to be able to read something. I can read a magazine in the bathroom, in bed, in the car when someone else is driving, etc.
this doofus reminds me of the shops that wanted only licensed dealers to be allowed transfers.
These must be the same magazines that have sensible control nutjobs writing editorials supporting Obama.
Thanks for the correction. It is difficult to get updated info. on businesses today since they are bought, sold or in bankruptcy often.
That’s fine I guess. But if you get a chance, go back to an old mag and review a Kel-tec PMR 30, or a Glock 42, or a Colt Defender/New Agent, or any other expensive new toy and then check around on the internet and see what you find out from people who actually bought them. BIG, big difference.
You’re exactly right. The only decent feature in American Rifleman is ‘The Armed Citizen.” Everything else is a pitch for the NRA and a monthly French kiss to the sundry advertisers who pay the mag’s bills. I understand the reality of the situation, but in terms of objective critiques of firearms, the national gun publications are useless.
Get your head out of the sand
In my youth we had GREAT car magazines and GREAT gun magazines for one reason and one reason only - Robert E Peterson. A great hunter, outdoors-man, and car guy, he kept the magazines on the straight and level.
Sadly he is gone now and had no one to step in and fill his shoes. All the magazines were sold off. As we see now, many to disastrous results.
He might be giving money because of blackmail.
It started when a writer for Guns & Ammo wrote a piece calling for gun control. Because of outrage from their readers and advertisers they fired him. Then the NYT did an attack piece on them.
Yeah, then I’ll probably find differing views...so?
Unless it’s a Ruger
Forget it. Contrarian.
Okay, i’ll get specific. My family is in the extreme African Safari custom rifle business. The mass produced guns of today are more accurate than the guns of long ago. But their tupperware stocks, parkerized bluing, and barrels that need deburing are not a work of art. The classic bolt action of all time is the mauser 98. The pre64 Winchester 70 and the 03 springfield were works of careful craftsmenship. There are many fine guns made today by Weatherby, Kimber, etc. are nice but cost in excess of $1500. Probably the best compromise off the shelf guns are athe Browning, Tikka, Ruger 77, top end 700’s, FN Winchesters. I’m not trashing the Savages, Ruger American, mAarlin X-7’S, Mossbergs, etc. They will kill a deer every bit as dead as a $25oo cukstom rifle, but they lack the feel, the class of a fine rifle. Flame away. I’m for every law-abiding American to own as many guns as he can stuff in his safe, but pick up an early Model 70 as approved by Jack O’connor and feel the claw engage the round on an early elk-hunting morning in Montana.
I’ve drifted away from the glossy gun magazines and now only pick up the special publications on things like milsurp rifles. Otherwise, I’m content with Shotgun News (I like how it makes the pierced and tattooed cashier at Barnes & Noble glare at me).
No flames. I’m merely saying that I do not believe that every gun built after ‘64, that is not a Remington or Winchester, is junk.
