LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 20-year-old California law that prohibits undocumented immigrants from accessing public healthcare, welfare and other benefits may soon be coming off the books. On Wednesday, State Senator Kevin de Leon joined other state lawmakers to introduce Senate Bill 396 (PDF), which calls for the repeal of Proposition 187 passed in 1994. Approved by 59 percent of California voters, Prop 187 – which marked the first time that any U.S. state passed legislation related to immigration – was aimed at saving state and local governments roughly $200 million due to reduced costs for public social services, health care and higher education.

Ohhh that's right with the LIBTARDS it only goes one direction.

Arizona cannot pass a law to regulate immigration because it is exclusively and solely the purview of the federal government under the constitution. Arizona cannot pass a law in any area where it has no jurisdictional power.

I imagine they just want to codify what they do now anyway (in violation of the law).

Does anyone really think that illegals want for anything in CA?

I guess we don’t yet understand that it is the American citizens’ responsibility to PAY THE BILL for the illegal aliens. If there is not enough money, the illegal aliens will be taken care of first.

I’d say let them do it so the rest of us can sit back and watch them reap what they sow.

But they’d just flee the state, taking their Liberalism with them to wherever they go.

Prop 187 was declared unconstitutional. The decision was never appealed.

I actually favor them bringing up this proposal.

What if it doesn’t pass?

Would that then revive 187?

It might. At least it would garner support to appeal the prior decision.

Calif , is passing their own set of immigration laws. How they can afford this

And, next time their fiscal problems become apparent, they'll ask for Federal taxpayer help in fixing them.

Of course they would repeal the ban, the illegal aliens have taken over the state. California is doomed to bankruptcy, as California goes, so goes the nation.

The idiot liberals will pass this feel-good legislation and then wonder why their taxes are going through the roof.

On the other hand it is interesting to note that this is a “gut and amend” of a bill that proposed a blatantly unconstitutional attempt to outlaw and ban without compensation standard capacity magazines (more than 10 rounds) possessed legally before importation and sale of them was banned in CA. It is somewhat heartening to see them come to their senses on one issue.

Yep, they soil their on nest so badly that they have to leave and then they vote for the same sh*t that made California unlivable.
