PA:Another Writer Transfers Volition to Guns
Gun Watch ^ | 15 September, 2014 | Dean Weingarten

The alternative online publication philebrity.com, which is about "Philly Arts, Gossip, Media, Music, Nightlife & Politics".   The have picked up on the theme of irrationality of those who wish to disarm the citizenry by attribution volition and motivation to inanimate objects:

"..3,373 people were killed by guns in Philadelphia between September 11, 2001 and the end of 2013, and 174 more have been murdered so far this year."
People were killed *with* guns, not "by" guns.   There is a large difference.   Guns are not alive.   Guns do not make choices.  Guns do not have volition or motivation.   People do.   Those who try to impute volition and motivation to guns appear to do so in order to remove volition and motivation from people.   If humans have no volition or motivation, then they are not responsible for what they do.   That seems to be what this irrational usage is aiming at.

One of the prime ways to remove remove responsibility from humans is to transfer it to objects.

A natural consequence of a product-driven culture. “You have an X? oh, poor person, your life would be so much better if you discarded that X and bought a Y!” Products have been (not that it’s unusual) regarded as a magic talisman; guns in particular, as they have such “power”.

For quite a few years, they ascribed volition to SUV’s as well.
Was amusing to see all those vehicles just doing things on their own their occupants trapped inside a rampaging vehicle.

Haven’t seen an SUV freakout article in awhile, probably because the freakout du jour is now “guns”.

I remember seeing ads for guns in magazines when I was a kid. Available by mail. Guns used to be a lot more available and a lot less controlled. Why was there not such a problem back then? A sane, Christian culture. The idea of banning Bibles and prayers from schools would have been a silly fantasy back then. Kids were not taught that they were just animals. Abortion was illegal and rare. Sexual immorality was not celebrated and promoted the way it is today. In short, sanity and decency ruled. No, it was not utopia. People wanted yo be adult, responsible and decent. For the most part. /end rant.

The left’s idea of utopia is to create a society where something or someone else is to blame for all your ills. You are no longer to be held responsible for anything you do, and everything is permissible.

An eternal Liberal - that is, anti-rational - confiscationist meme.
