State Democrats Facing 2014 Obliteration in Vital National Swing State Ohio
Reaganite Republican ^ | 29 September 2014 | Reaganite Republican

Does anybody get the feeling the Dems are increasingly
desperate to find new talent that doesn't implode

Weak bench if you ask me... and telling

There's plenty of similarities between the way they promoted a poorly-vetted Wendy Davis in Texas -and now gubernatorial candidate (and political goober)
Ed FitzGerald in Ohio-  only to collapse in a utterly failed effort. The Buckeye state Dems blame a firm they hired to vet him, so typical of leftists to point the finger when they screw something up.

Both of these Democratic Party 'rising stars' imploded spectacularly, all but guaranteeing the Republicans will not only retain the state executive branch, but deliver a substantial coat-tail effect to GOPers all the way down the ticket- can't hurt at all for 2016, mind you.

The FitzGerald case might even be more disastrous/damaging than
Abortion Barbie's spinout, coming in Ohio which (statistically) tends to 'decide' national elections.

Furthermore, Kasich was far more vulnerable than the GOP in Texas, but that opportunity was completely blown when police reports (2010) surfaced that had found the former FBI agent and Cuyahoga County Executive (Cleveland area) in a car with an attractive woman who was not his wife at 4:30am in a Clevo suburb parking lot. Neighbors had called the police when they saw the car 'rocking'... the gal was from a visiting Irish delegation with whom FitzGerald had spent the evening.

But even for those willing to suspend disbelief and still give FitzGerald the benefit-of-the-doubt on that episode, it then was discovered that he hadn't had a driver's license in over a decade, yet had in fact been driving all over the place- including throughout his two-year stint as Cuyahoga County Executive, and apparently on nights-out partying, too.

Understandably, Kasich has opened up a 30-point-lead... I'd be more excited about it if he wasn't one of the GOP gubs that refused to stand like a conservative and caved on Obamacare. Perhaps actual Reaganite leadership from the White House in 2017 would help to get his mind right on that.

Astute conservatives have known from the getgo--- Dummycrat-ism is not even a coherent party....just a collection of hyphenates, hacks, hooligans, schemers and govt looters.....aided and abetted by an expedient alliance of special interest groups who finance the schemers....all of them gorging at the public trough.

Spot on. That needs repeating often.

I'd be more excited about it if he [Kasich] wasn't one of the GOP gubs that refused to stand like a conservative and caved on Obamacare.

And there's the rub. Our choice is between uber-liberal Fitsgerald or liberal-lite Kasich. Kasich didn't just cave on Obamacare, he used the Controlling Board stacked with GOP buddies to bypass the State Legislator. ( according to a WSJ article.) He's also had an F rating from the NRA for his entire political career. I won't vote against Kasich, but I won't for him.

On the FitzGerald situation, it wasn't the 4:30 am situation that turned voters off. The drivers license situation is one everyone can relate to. He either lied to get auto insurance or drove without it. That would've ended almost anyone else in jail.

Kasich is disliked most for balancing the budget on the backs of towns that are having financial difficulties because of that. With FitzGerald, they chose a county commissioner who hands almost all the county money to Cleveland, at the expense of the towns.

Why the dems ever picked someone with the same vulnerability as Kasich is beyond comprehension.

She never even got within 7-8 points, even in the most favorable poll

Pretty weak candidate, but at least she had a driver’s license

Kasich rejected an ObamaCare Exchange because the states had no input in how the program would be run in Ohio.

He accepted the Medicaid money because new Obama taxes taken from the state are subjected to significant controls by the state.

Kasich contends that if states don't bring tax money taken from Ohioans back to Ohio, then the Fed will just spend it elsewhere.

Some try to make it sound like he's saying Medicaid money will be increased elsewhere. That's not what he's saying. He's saying that any money collected and sent to D.C. is going to be wasted SOMEPLACE....

I absolutely agree with that. Obama will send it to some of his pals at the latest iteration of Solyndra or spend it in some liberal manner.

We were 7 billion in debt when Kasich took over. We are now 1 billion in the black, and he's in the process of engineering an income tax cut to return that money to Ohioans.

Kasich is a good governor. The best in my memory in a long, long time. Republicans would do well not running around trying to injure someone who was dealt a lousy hand and is doing pretty good with it.

Because all of their other potential candidates had already been convicted.

when attractive women are literally throwing themselves at you 24-7 .. it's amazing it doesn't happen more often.

How did Ohio end up going for Obama?
They had so much to lose, and indeed, did lose it.

Here’s hoping.

The Dems need to be wiped out politically all over.

I thought the crooks were from both parties. I don't understand why they chose someone from Cuyahoga County.

I thought that was a resume enhancement for Democrats.

In 2008, like the remainder of the nation, Ohio went for Obama because the media had made Bush into a boogeyman, Bush had never bothered to defend himself, and because John McCain ran a non-campaign.

In 2012, Obama won in my mind because Mitt Romney refused to engage. His entire campaign, after the primaries, became “I can create jobs and I did at Office Max (or whatever it was)”.

Apparently, engaging is OK with republican opponents in the primaries who can be smeared, lied about, backstabbed, and undercut.

But, please don’t argue with the liberals.

IOW, the republicans lost through incompetence or by design. Take your pick.

Kasich made one big mistake when he got into office - SB5 might have been great in theory, but even conservative areas (like Licking County) completely and utterly rejected it on its face.

That was his big vulnerability - the repeal of SB5 might have been enough to sink him if the Democrats had gotten someone competent to run. Fitzgerald is not that.
