Congrats, South Florida, You Re-Elected Gov. Rick Scott by Not Showing Up to Vote
The Miami News Times ^ | Nov. 5, 2014 | Tim Elfrink

There's a meme that's been going strong on Reddit's Florida page all summer. It shows Rick Scott and Charlie Crist side-by-side with the caption "Giant Douche Versus Turd Sandwich." That South Park reference seemed to resonate especially in Democrat-rich South Florida. As Riptide noted yesterday, local Facebook feeds and Twitter updates were rich with cynical "Why bother?" messages because of the matchup.

Sure enough, Miami-Dade had the worst turnout in Florida yesterday, with Broward not far behind. In a razor-tight election, the result of that voter apathy in those left-leaning bastions became clear by around 10:30 last night: Gov. Rick Scott had won. Congrats, South Florida apathy!

Look, if you were truly backing Governor Scott -- despite the laundry list of failures as state executive, from openly mocking Sunshine Laws to handing a comically conflict-of-interest-tainted slow-train contract to a company with ties to his chief of staff after turning down federal funds for a real high-speed rail system -- hey, that's your choice.

A couple hundred thousand people statewide also found a constructive way to critique the matchup by casting a ballot for Libertarian Adrian Wyllie. Also a totally defensible choice.

It's the tens of thousands of voters in South Florida who can't stand Scott but decided that not voting at all was a way to lodge a protest against Florida's Democrats running out an orange retread like Crist that are the truly frustrating constituency in this race.

LOL! The chameleon apparently did’t turn the correct color soon enough. But this little whine is nothing compared to the outrage over Pam Bondi keeping her job. WOW! Congrats FL on keeping them both.

What happened to Charlie's "Souls to the Polls" effort that this same paper was touting the weekend before the election?

The media did all they could to elect orange boy but it didn't work.

Look closely at the results and the NEW voting laws in Florida.....AN HONEST ELECTION....maybe for the first time in decades!

Crist’s team called for Broward county polls to be kept open...that couldnt work this time...no found ballots..no bussed in scum...

Decent folks turned out in strength! Make no mistake, the vile lowlife sleezy scum that is the heart of the Democrat party has been beat..and beat honestly.

Normal people are now in charge!

Could be. Other Republicans besides Scott won easily.

Sorry newspaper, you endorsed a dud that excited nobody. But relax because it’s only a year or two max before Charlie finds something else to run for. He is so hungry for power he’ll never stop trying for it. So you’ll get another shot soon enough.

“The fact that Crist even came close is scary.”

It proves that most Rat voters are really the ‘mind numbed robots’. They will vote for ANYONE with a D by their name...even if that person merely changed his political party in a cynical ploy to continue his political lifestyle.

I’ve seen Rats vote for a dead man (Carnahan) before...nothing is beyond the pale.

Works for me. Scott is far from the likeliest candidate you could find, He is awkward in front of a camera, by no means slick. But a pretty good governor. Far better than Charlie Crist.

This canard about rejecting high speed rail funds from the federal government is repeated most often by fools like this who do not understand the economics of high speed rail. In Florida, it could make sense to construct high speed rail from Miami to Orlando, but Orlando to Tampa is too short (especially with all the intermediate stops added in to satisfy local pols) to take advantage of the "high speed" part of high speed rail. Not to mention that Obama's offer was for federal help on the front end, the state would be left with the long term legacy operating costs (much like Atlanta is saddled with he MARTA train system). No thanks!

“Look closely at the results and the NEW voting laws in Florida.....AN HONEST ELECTION....maybe for the first time in decades!”

Kansas now has a voter ID law....and a funny thing happened.

That race for senate where Orman was even or up a point in the polls....he lost by 11 points.

The governor’s race was similarly close with Brownback usually down a point or two...but the final spread was 4 points in Brownback’s favor.

All the pundits are trying to figure out why. Its well known that most polls over-sample democrats...allegedly because they are more likely to vote. Maybe that model is flawed now that they can only vote once.

How in the hell does a newspaper actually allow a headline like that to actually be printed without promptly folding their operations within 24 hours?

The media cannot, for a single moment, let the thought that Democratic liberalism lost this election or the voters intent was to stop Obama.
