How much snow(inches) will an ATV push?

How many CC is yours? I assume it must be 4WD.

Yes it’s 4wd. Smallest one, 325cc. Actually part time 4wd with a switch on the handlebars. It’s got a 2 speed box so you plow in creeper low.

The thing FAR exceeded my expectations, it’s like a small CAT dozer. Have never put on chains.

On the Polaris design, you have to slip all 4 wheels out to lose traction, and that’s not easy to do.

The blade comes off with two latches and a chain link snap.
Great design.

Then you can drive it in 2wd like a sprint car at Eldora.

Did I tell you I LOVE my Polaris?

It’s something the Weather Channel (part of NBCU and owned by regime affiliate Comcast) had started to push their “climate change” doctrine.

I have thought about buying an ATV. Something to double as a tractor. I was thinking I needed 4WD at least 450cc or bigger. Although, I am only about 185 lbs. I also wanted something with a plow on it, but others have told me they do not work well with more the 3-4 inches of snow.
Anything more than that, you need a snow blower or plow truck. Plus they would be fun to play on when it is not snowing.

Did you look at the Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, etc. ?

Plus they are a lot cheaper than a Kubota or John Deere tractor.

I wanted this rig to plow snow primarily, because I have a long driveway. You have so much gear reduction in low that power isn’t really a factor (since we’re not worried about speed here). With the Polaris drivetrain locking all 4 wheels together, the thing is a beast. I’m not familiar with other brands if they offer that type of drive mode. Suspect a 2wd machine would slip out pretty easy.

Polaris is headquartered in Minnesota and they come from a snowmobile background in the 1950s.
Their stuff really works well in cold weather.

Another part I like is the maneuverability, it can go down sidewalks, etc that a pickup won’t.

The thing is, Chris, is that it’s about 5 weeks from the calendar beginning of winter.

So, what is the deepest snow you have plowed with it? I also have a 200’ driveway. However, the first 100’ are at a 25 degree incline. My house sits about 35’ in elevation above the road. I would probably need chains.

My old Simplicity Snow Away snow blower (circa 1972) that I bought 5 years ago for $300 broke. The secondary impeller snapped one of the 3 wings off. It was made out of 1/4” thick cast aluminum. I caught a rock between the housing and the paddle wheel.

I am looking at buying another one. Same model from a guy off Craigslist:
http://nh.craigslist.org/grd/4735078825.html

This design will throw snow farther than any machine made today with the exception or those $2500 Honda blowers. It is shaft and chain driven. It will throw snow 50’. The design also will throw slush or wet heavy snow. They stopped making them because it will also throw rocks 100’ , right through your neighbors window.

All that being said, I would still consider buying an ATV if it could plow up to 6” snow. Anything more than that, I call the plow guy. It is worth the $40.

Sometimes our season are more distinct that at other times.

Sometimes there’s barely a winter, sometimes it’s a very harsh winter.

Sometimes winter bleeds into fall, sometimes it bleeds into spring.

One thing I do know for sure is that the Earth does whatever she wants, and she does it whenever she wants to do it without regard to whatever her residents may think or do.

Six inches is no problem at all.
I’m surprised you aren’t seeing a lot of them in your neighborhood.
Here in mid-Indiana which is not a real snowbelt location they’re all over the place.

(can’t you get somebody to heli-arc your busted impeller?)

Heli-arc. Honestly, I never thought of that. I actually have a spare Simplicity, same vintage with no engine. I have been pirating parts off of it. I could not get the impeller off the other one.

The one in the ad, I can probably buy for $150. He already offered it to me for $175. I just figured it would be cheaper to buy that one, than taking it to a shop to fix mine.

As far as Polaris ATVs, there are a lot around here. There are also lots of Hondas, Kawasaki and Yamaha. The guy next to me in my office has two Polaris. One is a 650 and the other is a 800. He is a big guy. So is his son. I just never knew anyone to plow with them much over a few inches.
This guy also has a 24HP Kubota tractor and a 13HP Toro snow blower. He has a 500’ driveway.

I would not buy anything that was not 4WD or all wheel drive. I also would want it to be a water cooled, four stroke, with automatic and reverse.

Actually, 10 years ago, the hype was that Global Warming could trigger an ice age. Theory is known as thermohaline circulation. Look it up. Anyways, now they have to revert back to the ideas of 10 years ago. Kind of funny, it’s like a flip flopping politician.

In PA we’re already getting below freezing temperatures this week, and we’re already getting prepared, and not waiting to the last minute.
