With business confidence at post-crisis lows (in the US and around the world), it is hardly surprising that consumer confidence would fade and at 88.7 (vs 96.0 expectations), this is the biggest miss since June 2010. It appears last month's exuberant surge/beat was anomalous as we tumble from 94.5 in October, in spite of tumbling gas prices and record high stocks... The drop was largely driven by a slide in 'hope' as expectations fell to the lowest since June. Labor, employment, and business conditions all dropped.

I’m sorry this whole story sounds like Economic Grubering.
So people don’t like high stock prices and low gas prices?
The common man/woman likes low gas prices. The high rollers dislike it when stocks produce low dividends. I don’t see how cheap energy is something not to like.
Cheaper fuel is offset by higher food prices, and the majority of the masses have no real stake in the stock markets. Most people are still living from paycheck to paycheck, and cannot keep up with inflation.
“It appears last month’s exuberant surge/beat was anomalous “
Duh, the one that came out before the election? Gee, whoda thunk it?
People are depressed over tumbling fuel prices. Darn, gas was 15 cents less a gallon today!/s
What I got out of this is that high stock prices and low gas prices should make everyone happy and upbeat but for some reason they are not. Why would that be? Does not make sense. Maybe it has to do with people looking at their personal situations and wondering why they don’t feel good about high stocks and low gas.
Wag the Dog — lower oil prices are the only reason there’s been any improvement at all. Lack of confidence stems from the Zero Regime’s crimes and misdemeanors. Zero Hedge delenda est.
Not to mention a good part of the lower gas prices is due to collapsing demand instead of supply abundance.
Exactly. Demand is all to hell.
Cattle prices are still sky high.
I dont see how cheap energy is something not to like.
A Nation with cheap and abundant energy cannot be controlled easily.
There are starting to look tasty on the hoof.
