There could be an unlikely contributor to the decline of marriage in this country. And it's free pornography on the Internet.
A team of researchers, who published their findings in The Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Germany, determined that the rise of free Internet pornography is not only correlated with a pronounced decline in percentage of young adult males who are married, but might actually be contributing to the trend.
"The results in this paper suggest that such an association exists, and that it is potentially quite large," the study notes.
The researchers used data from the General Social Survey (GSS), a comprehensive, nationally representative survey, to analyze how 18-to-35 year-old men used the Internet between 2000 and 2004. They focused on how many hours each participant spent on the Internet per week, and how many reported having used the Internet to view pornography in the past 30 days, but also observed other activities, including the use of religious websites.
"We asked ourselves, what is helping determine whether people are married or not?" said Dr. Michael Malcolm, a professor at the University of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and one of the study's authors. "One of those things, we thought, could be the use of pornography."

The reason, Malcolm explains, is likely tied to the relationship between marriage and sexual gratification. If pornography is viewed as a means of alternative sexual gratification, then it could be undercutting the need for marriages to serve this function, at the very least during a younger age. Think of it as a milder form of premarital sex.

That is the VERY resaon why marriage is on the decline. Why would men date women when a female will denounce her male date for sexual harassment, rape, and so on? No wonder why females in college are openly wonder why they can't get dates--militant feminism has made males actually afraid of women at times.
Porn doesn’t make sense as a major factor. If a guy wants sex, why watch or read porn when the real thing is available everywhere. Granted, some guys will have to work harder than others to get it but it’s readily available at just about any bar, campus, Y, wherever.
Couldn’t be western style feminism causing the decline...nope, no way, can’t be.
But if it was we would never admit to it.
I think it’s a combination of:
1. TOO EXPENSIVE.
2. My girlfriend puts out, so why marry?
3. Fear of divorce.
4. Gays can marry, so marry doesn’t mean anything.
The real reason (the 400-lb fat girl in the room that no one talks about) is the in-your-face hatred that many women have for marriage, family, and men in general.
There. I said it.
Big grubment has replaced the financial need for males.
That and the values that Obama keeps talking about.
You must be kidding. Porn is a destroyer of peoples characters and morals.
Part, yes, but they’re being taught not to get married, too. It’s part of the attack on traditional values and mores.
And yet Bridal Shows are always overflowing.
Yes, let’s ignore 50 years of extremist feminists poisoning the well and stacking family courts against men, to the point where young men are afraid to get married and have kids.
I’m not married, and I don’t intend to get married.
I don’t give a crap about porn.
I don’t want to be married, because I enjoy my freedom. I like doing what I want, when I want, for however long I want, and I don’t feel like having to explain myself to anyone. I don’t want to have to ask for permission, I do not want to be a domesticated two-headed male.
I also do not want to make myself subject to the divorce laws of this country.
Porn used to be difficult to access and in crude and simple forms, and you could go your entire life without seeing it.
Now it is unavoidable as it is on TV, movies, and billboards and in print advertising.
Porn as we know it, is completely new.
I’m not saying pornography is a good thing. There’s no evidence that it’s a major *causal factor* in the decline of marriage.
Four words: Divorce Equals Meal Ticket.
Why get married and work for (fill in the number) of years and lose at least half of what you worked for because of a narcissistic self centered woman that feels oppressed because the media told her she was?
Not because I'm attacking traditional values, but because I want him to complete his education before committing to a family.
Uh Sarge, could also be that the average American girl, in all her size 14+ spandex controlled curvaceous glory, is a bit hard to handle for today’s young video warriors?
Nonsense, go to a nightclub and watch how many men pass through, and how few exit with a female.
Pornography treats people as mere objects to be used for our own selfish
gratification. Pornography also destroys the meaning of true love. The Bible
is clear: “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality,
or of any kind of impurity” (Ephesians 5:3).
Never forget that what goes on in our minds eventually influences the way we
act. Jesus warned, “I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has
already committed adultery with her in his heart”
(Matthew 5:28).
Make it your goal to keep your mind pure, as well as your
body.
