So for a given bar, you would have may five or ten guys who would be picking up women, and thirty to forty who would never be able to.

Yep. Google "hypergamy". Most women will chase the same small group of desirable men, ignoring the ones willing to marry them in favor of ones with too many options to need to commit to any one of them.

The purpose of marriage was to force women to pick one man from the set of men willing to commit to her.

The sad fact is, it’s easier to get a woman if you are already in a relationship.

If someone dates you and you’re not in a relationship currently, they are going to wonder why.

Not all men are rich, nor want prostitutes.

Sex being available on demand for a sexually active young man could run into the thousands of dollars per week, that is not exactly sex on demand.

People aren’t getting married these days because of financial reason

That and the breakdown of the family through an effort to discourage religion and normal relationships. Since more people are staying single, they're resorting to porn to satisfy their needs.

“man who would bore and offend most women within 5 minutes”

Maybe they can’t get a date so they watch porn instead. These are not the likely marriage candidates anyway.

I think this conclusion is laughable. It suggests that there is an even choice between a wife and a stack of porn videos. While porn is often destructive to a marriage, as is any vice indulged to excess, the reason for fewer marriages is far more complex for reasons that make porn almost a non-factor.

It is the rejection of God in Jesus Christ that is destroying all things.

Absolutely, but the American people would disagree.

when the kids become a handful, and children always do..., the mothers fall apart and expect the dad to cover things when he gets home. He is overwhelmed and the arguments start, the marriage fails.

Well, here's one way to handle it:

Jamshedpur, India: Rintu Karmakar, 60, flew into a rage when he discovered wife Monu, 55, hadn't prepared a meal or done any of the house work and was fast asleep in bed. He told police that he first tried to cut her head off with an axe while she slept but that had failed so instead he beheaded her with a scythe. He then calmly cooked and ate his own meal before throwing his wife's head in the back of his truck and driving to the police station to make a full confession.

She's 55, probably with no kids in the house any more, and he did this? Possibly she was coming down with flu, and he overreacted? Or maybe she slept in once too often.

Just sayin'...

Like what for instance? Maybe the fact that men can get free casual sex with no strings - no marriages?

That being true, what do you think drives this culture? What do you think is at the root of it all?

Yeppers. A trillion dollar porn industry.

Decent conservative women I know don’t seem to have an issue finding a decent husband. I cannot for the life of me understand why any man- even a looney left would want a looney left women’s libber, so I imagine they have an issue finding a husband. They don’t seem to have much to offer.

My pleasure. Never thought I’d miss the good doctor, but I guess ‘90s nostalgia got the better of me.

If it’s not a causal factor it’s not causing the problem. Maybe it just happens to be present but so what.

Everything in their data base is after the fact data. Worse than that, much of it is self-report. It’s fun to look at the correlations but it’s not explaining anything causally.

I said it might not be THE major causal factor. It has helped corrupt and pervert our society to the point where marriage has been poisoned.

Also, it used to be that eventually a guy ran out of buddies who weren’t married, so you couldn’t just go out with the boys anymore, so there was no choice but to get married or be considered a laughingstock.

haha I'm running out of buddies who's not married.

No, not all guys have access to a willing female. Stats show that about 24% of men have access to about 76% of the females. The rest of the males have to vie for what is left.

That means about two-thirds of single males pretty much have to forego female companionship and try to forego it without becoming a criminal. :)

My marriage aged sons say it is because young women who actually “want” to be in a traditional marriage are few and far between. Most want to be able to go out everyday, facebook constantly, shop without having money, sexually loose, and trash men.

Yep. There are traditional women out there, but yeah you'll have to find them in Amish and Mormon communities.

Sorry. I dont view porn as a primary problem but a symptom.

In my personal view, there are a few basic problems.First being economics. Men just don’t have the financial prospects that they did 20 years ago and like it or not, marriage has some economic basis. Second is closely tied to that and men, especially young men, are well aware of the sugar daddy phenomenon and that they have zero rights in the courts. So marriage, which has rarely been particularly advantageous from a man’s perspective, is now viewed as being foolhardy. And finally, I think a lot of it has to do with men not being able to live up to the roles theyre supposed to fill. Some guys are just plain shy and don’t have the personality or gumption to play or fake the roles that a lot of women expect. The tragic part for women is that these men, who in some cases really are decent prospects, tend to remove themselves from contention just before the age that women start looking for more realistic prospects.

It’s one piece of the dynamic. Porn is a scourge on our society.
