Media Pushing Michael Sam Again
Leo McNeil ^ | December 29, 2014 | Leo McNeil

Michael Sam is again dominating NFL headlines. You’ll recall that Sam announced he was a homosexual before the NFL Draft. He was then drafted by the St. Louis Rams but didn’t make the team. He was signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad but was cut from that as well. Having done absolutely nothing in the NFL, Oprah Winfrey interviewed him and now he’s all the rage again within the liberal sports media. Let’s be clear about Sam, he hasn’t played a single down of football in the NFL. He’s no hero, he’s a washed up linebacker who simply doesn’t have the skills to compete at the NFL level. That was clear in the preseason when he dominated soon to be cut players in the 4th quarter of game one but couldn’t compete with starters or regular season backups in the 1st or 2nd quarter of game three.

Of course with the liberal sports media his performance on the field is nothing compared to the political statements he’s made off of it. Bryan Curtis of ESPN’s Grandland website compared Sam kissing his homosexual lover when he was drafted to the famous Victory over Japan photo taken in Times Square in 1945. Absurd hyperbole perhaps but the Sam kiss did more to make people gag than anything else. To compare it with an iconic photo from the end of World War Two is patently ridiculous the average American. Of course, it isn’t ridiculous when you’re pushing an agenda in which case the photo is iconic and terribly meaningful.

The problem of course is that Michael Sam was a mediocre football player who couldn’t even make the team. Nevertheless Oprah declares wonders aloud whether Sam was given a “fair shot.” In the world of NFL reality, Sam was given two shots and he wasn’t good enough to make either team he tried out for. The excessive news coverage of Sam during training camp couldn’t mask the fact that he really wasn’t a NFL player. There are not affirmative action roster spots in the NFL, a player is either good enough to play or they aren’t. Sam didn’t demonstrate anything on the field that would have made an already bad Rams team better. It’s hardly atypical for a 7th round pick to get cut, late round picks are notoriously unpredictable. Sometimes they work out, most of the time the player is gone within 2 years. Sam was no different, he just didn’t have the talent to compete in the NFL this year.

What really has the media excited is the prospect of more NFL players declaring themselves sodomites. Sam himself declared that other NFL players have reached out to him in “gratitude.” NFL homosexuals are so happy that Sam came out of the closet that not a single NFL player has done so since. If Sam was really paving the way for homosexuals in the NFL you would think at least one or two of them might have come out of the closet. Sam is likely lying about other homosexuals in the NFL in a vain attempt to keep himself relevant. For a group that loves to be pat on the back and told how wonderful they are just for declaring themselves to be sexual deviants and with a liberal sports media clearly willing to cheer them on, it’s odd that no other major sports star hasn’t declared himself a homosexual. There’s clearly money and adoration to be gained, even within the locker room major sports leagues are increasingly intolerant of dissenting (read: conservative) opinion. Where are the professional sports homosexuals? They don’t exist and Michael Sam is lying about them showing him any gratitude.

Michael Sam was a creation of the liberal sports media. To listen to ESPN you would have thought he was Jackie Robinson. In reality, Michael Sam was at best a questionable NFL prospect that got himself a lot of publicity by declaring himself a sexual deviant. Making out with his homosexual lover after he got drafted wasn’t iconic and the comparison between it and the actually iconic V-J Day photo says more about the media driven agenda than anything else. That the media is once again talking about a washed up sodomite who wouldn’t have made it in the NFL if he were straight indicates the agenda at work. We’re about to enter the NFL playoffs and the media is talking about a player who didn’t play a single snap this year. Absent an agenda the media wouldn’t be talking about Michael Sam just like they aren’t talking about the hundreds of other players who were cut during training camp.

The left is losing on all fronts politically. The only movement they had in the last election was in gay marriage. They are trying to find a foothold using this subject. Otherwise they have nothing to pivot off of. That is why you are seeing it.

I’d guess no more than ten gays playing pro, possibly five or fewer, but that’s only a guess.

The point is, it doesn't matter. Whether it is one or one hundred, the only thing that counts is if you can play the game and contribute to your team's success.

If you can make plays and are not a negative influence in the locker room, NFL teams wouldn't care if you wore a dress to the ballpark.

If the Cowboys were told to sign Michael Sam to their practice squad it would make no sense for them to cut him a couple weeks later. I don’t think they were forced to sign him, instead they gave him a tryout which he obviously failed. It isn’t unusual for a team to sign to their practice squad players who were drafted but cut.

He always seemed a little stiff in the locker room.

He sacked Johnny Football in preseason.

That kinda negated the whole gay thing.

“Even if there are a handful of homosexual football players in the NFL”

There are a whole lot of players who “dabble” in it. In certain cultures, it’s considered acceptable.
