BBC's insult to hero pilots: Veterans rage over Dresden coverage that attacks Britain...

The BBC’s coverage of the bombing of Dresden in which Britain was described as ‘worse than the Nazis’ was condemned as disgraceful by RAF veterans and MPs last night.

Despite dedicating more than 32 minutes of airtime to the 70th anniversary of the fire-bombing that killed tens of thousands at the end of the Second World War, there was barely a mention of British airmen who lost their lives.

The BBC’s four major news shows and Radio 4 interviewed multiple German survivors of the bombings.

They also showed a British prisoner of war who berated those who ordered the raids, adding it was ‘demonic’ and ‘evil’.

I’m guessing both.

I guess if no one had fought back, there would have been no war.

London was hurt. Coventry was wiped out. If the British had revenge on their minds it was Coventry that drove them. And besides revenge turning a city into an inferno in sight of the Red Army might have been thought a useful demonstration.

So prior bombing missions related to cities were OK? When did they become inhumane?

In August of 1940, two aircraft were seperated from their formation and wound up lost while evading fighters over England. They jettisoned a negligible amount of bombs over London resulting in little damage.

Did you write for the Reich? What is a negligible amount of bombs when you are a civvie on the ground? What is your source for this statement as I assume you weren't the flight leader?

Churchill sacrificed Coventry to preserve the secret of "Ultra". Bletchley Park knew when the Luftwaffe was coming to bomb Coventry but Churchill thought tipping off the RAF would make it obvious that they knew in advance and German comms were compromised, too risky.

I am sure that the ruckus over Dresden will pale in comparison to the chest beating this August. Be prepared for more revisionist history.

Thanks for posting re the National Guardsman who went to Afghanistan to save the women. That is exactly it - seeing folks as victims just never jibes with Reality.

The BBC series “The Nazis; A Warning From History” is very good in that they interviewed many surviving Nazis and others and shows how they all went along to get along.

This is really pitiful stuff. Any German today who sees Germany has having been unfairly victimised in WW2 had high ranking Nazi officials in his family tree. They’re the only ones who held on to the myth. Who were your high-ranking Nazi family members?

Are you one of the Nazis who says the Holocaust didn’t happen, but at the same time wants to have another one?

"At the onset Germany bombed military targets exclusively as Hitler specifically prohibited the Luftwaffe from bombing any civilian targets."

Tell that to the Spanish in Guernica.

I was in one of my stores on Friday and met a kid 19-20 who told me he was going into the marines. I told him “good for him”, and kill plenty of muslims. He corrected me and told me he would be fighting Taliban. I said what’s the difference.
Before I left I wrote the following words on a piece of paper: Nidal Hassan, Fort Hood, 2009. Naturally he had never heard of Nidal Hassan. I thought he seemed quite naive so I told him to type those words into a computer when he got home. Hopefully I opened his eyes a little before he gets into the marines.

The Germans were the first to use poison gas in WWI [I know Because my Grandfather was gassed and died at an early age because of it] , the first to use VI and VII unguided missiles and would have used a nuke if they had been able to build one. They were not innocents.

The BBC, rewriting history at every turn. Disgusting, but so much like Big Media here. BBC, run by the Government.

War is the absence of law, so there are no crimes. It is about killing people and breaking things. There is no such thing as a “war crime”, no matter what the liberals claim.

However, to your hypothesis: When the war is over, if you acted badly beyond expectations then you might find the enemy is still very will alive. Either you kill everyone or you try to limit your actions so that the result can be peace.

"London was hurt. Coventry was wiped out."

Don't forget the shining examples of restraint of what the Germans did to those cities in Poland before they marched in.

The greatest success for any anti war movement is in extending wars.
