"The Last Valley" Best Post-SHTF Movie Ever
Youtube ^ | February 25, 2015 | Matt Bracken

"The Last Valley" stars Michael Caine and Omar Sharif, it's set in Germany in the 1640s during the Thirty Years War.I stumbled upon this forgotten masterpiece from 1971 a few days ago when I obtained some old VHS tapes from a friend.

Just update the story line 400 years, change it to Christians vs Muslims, give everybody an AK-47, and this may be what the future is going to bring.

The movie flopped at the box office for a number of reasons unrelated to its quality. The John Barry soundtrack alone is stunning.

"The Last Valley" is now on Youtube in 12 minute segments. At least watch the first two segments, if you have time. Many social and military issues in the movie are timeless. This is the best SHTF/prepper movie I can ever remember watching.

Sounds interesting!

But I give: who was M. Caine’s “drop-dead gorgeous wife,” and what does SHTF stand for?

I mean, I think I know what the “F” stands for...

It means when The $#!+ Hits the Fan.

Shorthand for various types of social calamity verging on Armageddon.

You won’t be disappointed. At least, watch the first two 12-minute segments.

I read a novel by Eric Flint called "1632" that takes place during the Thirty Years War.

The premise involves a small American town of three thousand sent in time back to April 1631, in an alternate Holy Roman Empire during the Thirty Years' War. The whole town. Buildings, vehicles, landscape. Sort of a Sci-Fi story.

Anyway, the details on the history of that period were fascinating. I'll be sure to check out "The Last Valley".

The Last Valley has no sci-fi elements at all, unless you count opposing religious beliefs.

5 Star selection, Travis!
Saw it in my teens and was deeply impressed.
It told a very meaningful story and is 1 of 4 or 5 films that I have seen in my lifetime that I have never forgotten.

If you can take I have seen the movie “The Road”. Talk about hopeless. The only food left on the planet is other humans and a tiny bit of sea life.....

It’s somewhat complicated.

The shortcut is to subscribe to Easynews and use their web interface where you can DL without the need of a news client.

1-subscribe to easynews.com (note that they have a 14 day free trial)
2-pay $9.98 (month) for the “classic plan. Then subscribe to the add on for 1500 day retention. Total is I think $17.99.
3-When logged into the web interface, go to “global search” and plug in “the last valley” to the “subject” field.
4-If you get that far, FReepmail me for determining which file is the best for download.

“The Road” is too damn grim for the first 90%, but has an uplifting/hopeful ending.

“The Last Valley” is about Sharif influencing Caine to stop being a monster and a killer, and start caring about the people in the valley.

In the end, “the Captain” undertakes a hopeless mission just to try to save the valley.

I agree. It’s unforgettable, one of Caine’s best, and Sharif is also amazing.

It’s a good one, if I recall. I remember they were desperate for salt, something most in the modern West never think about.

The Road shows that black powder weapons will be around long after the fancy ammo weapons are gone.

We pronounce it “shift” around our house.
I know, it’s not in that order, but we all know what we’re referring to...

and indeed, it will be a shift in the way everyone lives.
