...and openly discusses his transformation into a conservative.
Gutfeld was already whining on faux news about the shellacking he taking criticizing Cruz. These DC pundits just don’t get it.
If he'd had to assume the responsibility of running a state, he might not have gotten elected president. He might have gone down in flames at the state house level.
Or it's possible that he might have learned something about how to govern. I'm not saying that he would have changed as a person, but he would have had a different record to run on and might have been less conceited and unyielding.
Then again, Howard Dean did run a state for 12 years and is as arrogant and uncompromising as any first term legislator. Counterfactuals are tricky, but I wouldn't dismiss Krauthammer's argument out of hand.
Cruz, March 23: The facts are clear. I was born in Calgary. My parents as a legal matter, my mother is an American citizen by birth. And its been federal law for over two centuries that the child of an American citizen born abroad is a citizen by birth, a natural born citizen.
Cruz isn’t interested in governing. He wants change. Big effin difference.
Obama has been pretty successful at what he set out to do. He’s nearly destroyed the country. And he isn’t even that smart.
Imagine what Ted Cruz can accomplish.
2nd D, ok I'll ask...
Are you ok with Walker as VP? Or..
Jindal? Pence? Fiorina? West? etc...
IMHO with Walker's acumen running WI and his fire in the belly 2 heavy hitters to get things done like Cheney helped out works for me, what say you?
Even Juan McStain was smart enough to choose Sarah Palin, so I expect a VERY WISE choice from Ted Cruz and will leave him to make that decision.
Sounds familiar. Hope and Change, again?

You are an idiot.
Krauthammer squirms to hear that our rights come from God.
ridiculous for Krauthammer to make such a comparison... he is smarter than that, so his comments are disingenuous... amount of time in the Senate is not the only thing on either resume... and if he looks at what is on Obama’s resume, he would see it does not come close to comparing with what is on Cruz’s...
Federal law, as in passed by congress
? And for two centuries? — then that means that the power must be the Art 1 Sec 8, and that means that the power is over naturalization. (14th Amd wasn't until after 1850; two hundred years after that is 2050.)
So then he is claiming to be a natural born citizen under naturalization laws; that's ridiculous.
He asked how a conservative could be considered anti-Cruz, I answered.
Is there anything in my explanation of how a conservative could “be considered anti-Cruz” which was untrue or misleading?
(Note, I did NOT advocate any side in that particular post, I only explained how holding a particular position [with some reference to back it] could lead to that conclusion.)
Of course, but that applies to naturalized citizens as well: being a citizen already by their prior naturalization.
he IS a citizen, born of an American citizen mother.
And usually naturalization law is cited to show him a citizen at the time of his birth; if that law is applicable then he is naturalized because the law is a naturalization law.
Period. End of discussion.
I haven't seen anyone claiming he's not a citizen; but it seems stupid to me to point at naturalization statutes as proof that he's natural born.
I agree; but the problem is that I no longer trust the courts; decisions like Raich, Kelo, ACA, King all stink to high heaven and show that the court is willing to twist and turn and make politically expedient superior to a faithful interpretation of the law.
If the left can prove Cruz is ineligible, then so is Zero, and all zero’s misdeed and injuries to the US go *poof*, gone. Retroactively. Don’t think the left wants to go there.
Ted and his supporters are going to have to repeal, rollback, rescind everything zero’s done on our own, manually, one by one, based on the constitution.
you misunderstood what I said. And you will lose this argument, period, end of discussion, AGAIN.
I’ve no interest in it, until you can point to any conservative legal scholar of note who thinks there’s a problem. If you can do that, then I’ll pay more attention.
BTW, how do your Constitutional Law credentials stack up with Cruz, Dershowitz, Levin? Tick tick tick.....
Because the man was a natural born citizen at his birth by virtue of his mother’s citizenship,i.e. he was born a citizen of America.
There is no reason for a conservative or anyone else for that matter to be anti-Cruz on that basis, and I am really sick of hearing about it.
