Are cops trained/taught to ‘shoot to wound’? (See post 341). I had not head that one.

I believe cops are taught never to shoot to wound.

No, I know. Sadly, I have heard of cases of this before.

I hope that didn’t happen here, but there is no way I can deny the possibility.

Main thing I want to see happen here is that the cop be given a chance to explain himself, present his evidence in a court, and then have a jury decide.

I really hate jumping on bandwagons before all facts are out.

That being said, it looks really bad for him, and at this time I see him being convicted.

Also, i imagine that had the dead man shot the cop with his own taser, that would be in the report, and he would have taser wounds on him and such.

So we will see, time will tell on this.

Your #416 and #440 responses seem to contradict themselves. That is what I am speaking to.

That's if it can be determined if he was thinking clearly the whole time. If he was tasered (not yet proven), he might not have been in his right mind the whole time. Again, let's wait for more evidence to come in before making judgment.

That is what I always thought. Poster Conservativejoy says otherwise.

The officer was the attacker in both posts, according to what we know.

Meserle made the same mistake at Fruitvale Station in Oakland 3 years ago and went to prison. Oscar Grant case. Not murder.

You are right, it is a jury question. But if I were the prosecutor, I would point out that he was thinking clearly enough to take eight shots with deliberate aim, and then move the Taser to beside the body in order to stage the scene. Personally, I doubt that a jury is going to give this defendant much credibility, regardless of what he says.

That the question.. was he unarmed as far as the cop knew?.. he did shoot the cop with the taser.. and if the taser could still do injure the cop .. did the cop know it had been dropped?...

the guy did not just run..

he attacked the cop before he ran...why..why not just run...

that is a different story..

no different then then someones attacks you then runs..

It’s a political arm of state government, read the post regarding who is doing the charging.

So it’s even worse for the officer because there is no way Scott had the taser when he was shot in the back.
******************************
Slager dropping the taser holster at Scotts side , which holds the additional cartridges for the taser; this is proof positive that he was attempting to mislead the investigation he knew was coming... He attempted to make the evidentiary argument that the suspect was a danger to him when in fact he was not... That is the behavior of a criminal thug.

Even if I thought he gunned the guy down in cold blood, as an executive in the department I would oppose any effort to terminate him that quickly. There is a process for determining qualified immunity and they didn’t take long enough to determine that. You are already getting sued by the family, why add the terminated employee?

Without knowing anything about the black cop, I feel sorry for him for what Slager did to him.

That is not correct. Officers are taught to shoot to eliminate the ability for the threat to remain a threat. That means shooting until the guy is down and usually shooting center of mass.

My State Trooper nephew says he was trained to try and take down a suspect rather than kill him unless the suspect was armed and dangerous. I don’t know if that is uniform training or not.

Some of you guys are unbelievable. It’s like nobody learned from the Trayvon Martin case, the Michael Brown case, and on and on.
