Chipotle manager says Hillary didn't tip
The Hill ^ | April 15, 2015 | Mark Hensch

The manager of an Ohio Chipotle restaurant on Wednesday said Hillary Clinton didn’t drop money in the tip jar during her visit earlier this week.

Bloomberg reported that Charles Wright, manager of Chipotle’s Maumee, Ohio, location, said Clinton left no change after placing her order Monday afternoon.

“Her bill was $20 and some change, and they paid with $21 and left,” Wright said of the Democratic presidential candidate’s spending.

Clinton, who was on her way to Iowa, visited the Maumee franchise during its afternoon lunch rush alongside Huma Abedin, the vice chairwoman of her presidential campaign. Employees did not recognize either woman.

“We get a bunch of tips,” Wright, a GOP voter, said of his store’s typical business. “If we’re doing our job right, people tip.”

Wright said the pair ordered a chicken burrito bowl, a chicken salad, a blackberry Izzy and a soda. After an employee rang them up, he added, Clinton did not cover the final total.

“The other lady paid the bill,” he said of Clinton’s companion. “Clinton didn’t pay.”

The former secretary of State announced her campaign in a video released on social media Sunday.

“I’m running for president,” Clinton said in Sunday’s video.

“Everyday Americans need a champion,” she continued. “I want to be that champion.”

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh raised the issue of Clinton’s tipping during his Tuesday broadcast. Her behavior was important, he argued, given the rhetoric of her campaign.

“But I would like to know if she left anything in the tip jar, because that would be an indication that she understands the average, ordinary, everyman that she seeks to represent,” Limbaugh said.

Tip Jars at self-serve restaurants are often ignored by me so I have no issue with Hillary & Huma doing so. I’m glad to say I’ve never darkened the door of a Chipotle.

Same here… I'm not a fan of Chipotle and I don't tip people who work behind a counter. Still, the Hillary angle is delicious!

“Liberal elites don’t pay.”

I once spoke to a military officer who worked in the John F. Kennedy White House. He told me JFK never carried a wallet or cash on his person. If he was in a public situation where he needed money, say worshiping in a church when the collection plate was being passed, he would turn to the aide or Secret Service agent closest to him and ask for a $20.00 bill. The current buying power of $20 in 1963 is $153.41. At the time a Secret Service agent made about $400 per month so a single $20 “loan” to JFK represented 5% of gross income!

Unfortunately, Kennedy never reimbursed the agents for the cash he took from them and the agents were not permitted to file for reimbursement of money given to the President for personal use.

Considering the wealthy people I’ve known, liberals, particularly those who became wealthy through inheritance, tend to be extremely snobbish, class conscious, flashy, self promoting, and stingy with their money. I’ve found almost all self made conservative millionaires to be generous, respectful, and humble.

Yet it is the liberals who claim to love the common man.

“I HATE THE IDEA THAT EVERYONE THINKS THEY SHOULD BE TIPPED FOR DOING THEIR JOB.”

I only give tips for good (or excellent) service performed by the waiter or waitress. If it is bad service I leave one penny so that they know that I did not forget to tip and maybe they would learn something from that.

The better the service, the higher the tip.

However, fast food restaurants do not provide ANY SERVICE other than taking your order (after you stand in line) and call your name on the intercom to come and get it.

Consequently, no tip!

If you walk into a fast food joint and see a tip jar you have to remember the contents are shared by all who work there. From the most horrible asshole to the best employee they have. It’s the Socialist way...equal pay for non-equal work.

I have a pet peeve when eating out. I like my coffee with cream and sugar and my ice tea with sugar and lemons. If that waitress comes by my table and automatically tops my cup without asking, she loses her tip. I have it mixed the way I like it and I expect them to ask if I want it topped.

I just thought I’d take advantage of this thread to get the message out.

“First of all, NOT tipping, especially when they planned to release “look, she eats at Chipolte!” Is tone deaf at best and shows a sense of entitlement at worst. Worth millions...slip a $20 into the jar (even if NOT using the stop as publicity) just in case anyone recognizes you.”

I agree it makes no sense to tip at that kind of establishment. However, the above point is an excellent one for the circumstances. ESPECIALLY when she had just such an issue in Iowa during her last campaign.

I guess I’m as bad as Hillary.

Why would one tip in a fast food restaurant where you aren’t receiving any service other than food preparation?

You don’t tip at McDonalds or Burger King.

Now, at a sit down, service at the table restaurant, I’ll tip in excess of 20% most of the time, but I don’t put money in tip jars next to the cash registers.

I'm sure all of the waiters and waitresses reading this thread will take note of your peculiarity and remember it the next time they serve you.

But have you spent your entire life working to transfer wealth out of productive people's pockets and give it to others to buy votes?

Of course not. And that is the problem (one of many) with Clinton - not that she didn't tip at a fast food place.

Latching on to nonsense like this is silly, and undermines the credibility of real criticism.

“I don’t tip the clerk at McDonald’s, why would I tip the clerk at Chipotle?”

To prevent a hipster-spit deposit in your food.

If I can just get through to one waitress out there, I consider it mission accomplished.

Alinsky post? Because I think it’s more important to focus on Clinton’s real issues—her dreadful performance as a Senator and Secretary of State, her plans to further expand that ready bankrupt socialist welfare state, to start—instead of whether she tipped at Chipotle (a fast food place, where many/most people don’t tip anyway)? Because I think it’s counter-productive to focus on crap like tipping at Chipotle (think about it, why make it easy to deflect any real criticism - “Oh, they just hate anything she says/does”?). That’s an “Alinsky post”?

I can avoid that by avoiding Chipotle.

Did I misinterpret your point?

Did I misinterpret your point?

I don't know if you misinterpreted it. My point was simply that frivolous criticism like this (such as, "She didn't tip at Chipotle!") make it easier for the Dems/media/low-info-voters/etc. to ignore legitimate criticisms (such as, "She is unqualified, will weaken the country internationally, and will drive the country even further toward financial ruin domestically"). Toss enough frivolous criticisms out there, and it allows Clinton's defenders to paint a narrative that her critics reflexively hate everything she does, so their criticisms can be ignored.

Alinsky Rule #4: "Make the enemy live up to its' own book of rules."

About time we started using Alinsky against the Liberals, this is one way of doing, they've been using it on Conservatives for years' time to fight back.
