Ted Cruz: 'I don't think I've ever seen an Hispanic panhandler'

Presidential candidate and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Wednesday that he has never seen a Hispanic person begging for money on the street.

"I don't think I've ever seen an Hispanic panhandler. And the reason is: In our community it would be shameful to be begging on the street," Cruz said.

Cruz, who is of Cuban descent, made the point while speaking in Washington at a question-and-answer session with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

He used the example to argue the Republican Party should be able to compete for the Latino vote. Hispanics, Cruz said, share many of the same values that are championed by GOP leaders....

Come to think of it I’ve never seen one either. Even back when we lived in California all the beggars were white or black.

I have. In fact, it’s becoming a common occurance for this particular young latino family to stand in the parking lot or near the entrance with a sign in english and spanish ‘Please Help Us”.

A majority of both illegal and legal Latino immigrants are on welfare of some sort—why should they bother to beg in the street?

And I have encountered beggars in Latin America.

I think I have, but if so, it has been rare. And I live in an area with a huge Hispanic population. Most of the people I see panhandling are whites. Occasionally black. Never Asian.

I tend to agree. Saying never is ‘never’ a good idea. You could say it’s much more rare to see it, and I think that holds true. This can be twisted around to show him out of touch.

If they don't, then more power to them. The income tax is not for individuals, it's for corporations. Imposed on individuals, it's nothing more than partial slavery.
