More leftist idiocy from the Land O' Fruits and Nuts. Also, your tax dollars at work, as Tesla purchases are subsidized by the government.

A massive, classical example of the hypocrisy of the liberal left. Recharging enviro-friendly electric cars by burning HYDROCARBONS. The insanity of the concept is really laughable. Oh, but it will be rationalized.

Exactly the point many of us have tried to make about electric cars.

Where is the electricity to recharge electric cars going to come from? In many places it will be electricity generated in coal fired power plants.

Arguably we would be producing much more pollution from increased electric production to recharge electric cars, if we reach a.point where mlions of electric cars are plugged in and recharging every night.

They put the station by Harris Ranch so you can’t smell the diesel fumes. All you smell is cow.

I’m gonna look at the glass half full on electric cars. I think they have the potential be much cheaper to both purchase and maintain if there is a revolution in battery storage. Electric motors are cheap and durable, I’ve read on this topic. So if the industry would switch over, I would think cars would both cost less to purchase and less to maintain. Further, if there was a corresponding new source of cheap electric, such as a new generation of nuclear power plants, the cost per mile would be less than gasoline cars.

Yes it’s silly and hypocritical to own such a car today if your aim is to be an environmentalist. But the potential exist for this to just be a good development in the evolution of the car.

“Emission free cars” is one of those things that was designed to foll a gullible and ill-informed public. It is a lie and they know it.

Obviously the power comes from somewhere, and one way or another there’s an environmental impact. Solar? mining & chemical manufacture. Hydro? dams. Nuclear? nuclear. Fossil fuels? well, fossil fuels.

However, it’s not all-or-nothing. You’re not going anywhere on nothing, so let’s drop that straw man. A stationary diesel generator can be significantly more energy-efficient and pollution-reduced than than a mobile ICE.

“Zero emissions” is where the power is used. Nobody sane is contending there is no emissions anywhere at all - that’s stupid.

Yes, it’s amusing to juxtapose the “clean” car with the actual source of power. Still a marked improvement over what most people are driving. Being “conservative” does not mean “hey, let’s trash the environment with our Furd Earthfukr getting 3 gallons per mile”, it’s “let’s be sensible, having learned hard-won lessons, with what we’ve got.”

(Fair disclosure: I drive a LEAF.)

Those are the same kinds of idiots that are trying to scare us over global warming into giving up our cars and lighted homes.

—and then there are all those corn farmers using diesel equipment to plant, cultivate and harvest corn to make ethanol to be added to gasoline to lower the energy content per gallon to reduce overall gas mileage—

What if science and technology could capture “global warming” and put it into batteries, for vehicles?

Notice Harris Ranch does not simply re-sell grid power to charge the Teslas.

PGE now charges confiscatory electric rates.

So they must generate their own.

How did Cal EPA grant them a permit for a generating station? Or did they need or get a permit?

Classic how do you want your fossil fuel pumped into your car, in a location where it must be asked.

Maybe the generator is only there until they get the battery swap up and running.

They powered the Tesla charging station with a diesel generator for about 18 hrs when the local power company could not supply Tesla with any power.

Some people are freaking idiots.

Joking around aside, I believe the vehicles with combination technologies are the most practicle. Plug in Hybrid/gasoline (or diesel with Audi Q7)

—Toyota/Prius Plug-in Hybrids

—BMW i3 Plug-in Hybrids

—Ford Plug in Hybrid

—Volvo XC90 T8 Plug in Hybrid. Luxury SUV with 400 hp, AWD, etc. And they are making a point of the fact it will be priced well below the Tesla.

Audi even has a big luxury SUV which combines Plug-in electric capability, with turbo diesel power.

These and several others. They run short distances on electric only, can switch over to gas/electric hybrid function.

Some of them have a great deal of raw power for acceleration. Some stuff on high performance, high technology fuel efficient vehicles, from Volvo, BMW, Audi, etc.

A gas powered car converts fuel to motion more efficiently than a Tesla. There is a loss at every stage of electric propulsion.
