Well, of course, things are going to get bad. Persecution has already begun and God will allow our nation to suffer the consequences of its great choice for sin. However, it will NEVER destroy the Catholic Church. God will be with us through it all...and I expect to see great miracles and conversions in spite of the suffering.

Should be interesting to see who Catholic Democrats remain loyal to, especially the politicians. Will it be the party or the church?

As for me, I understand that the world is a deeply flawed place and regardless of what men do, God will have the last word on this. I grieve for the decision that was made, but am at peace knowing that God is directing the affairs of men to carry out His will.

Catholic Democrats

That should be an oxymoron, but unfortunately isn't.

I agree and would add Christian and Democrat, as well.

In think there is great potential for this to backfire big time if the government decides to try to force churches to participate in this in violation of their First Amendments rights. We should not despair, God is right in the middle of this. He will spit out the lukewarm churches and strengthen the rest in the process.

Christians ARE being persecuted just as they always have been. But there are many directions this decision can take and many unforeseen consequences that will fall on the heads of the people who brought this into fruition. A lot of money at stake, too. Hang on,it is going to be bumpy ride! The good news is we win. :-)

Most of the bishops that sided with Henry later came to their senses, especially after More, Fisher and the Carthusians were executed, the best and holiest men of their days. So, even if the bishops sided wrongly the first time they proved themselves worthy of a martyr's crown later.

There is a really good book on it if you are interested: "The Extinction of the Ancient Hierarchy" by G.E. Phillips (1905). It can be found on Amazon and also through Interlibrary loan.

Eleven English bishops languished to death in prison as forgotten men by the government.

People are unaware of this.

The great uncle 10x removed of our 1960s bishop here was one of the Irish martyrs. Dermot O’Hurley had been peacefully teaching Latin in the seminary in Douay and then was appointed archbishop of Cashel, the primatial see (this was after the English invasion of Ireland). He was recognized by one of Elizabeth’s spies as soon as he arrived, was captured and imprisoned for six months, while they did things like pour boiling oil into the thigh-high leather riding boots that they had put on him. Then they hanged him outside the city gates of Dublin at the express orders of Elizabeth I.

You entire Christian church is under attack. The hate is from the gay community, and word is the Justice Department is about to come down hard and possibly remove tax exempt status on any church not celebrating gay marriage.

To be fair - Tony Campollo supports gay marriage.

My guess is the Christian church will be attacked, but scared to lose one’s head (literally) will prevent the courageous gay community from going after them.

After which, it is up to the Vatican to take the next step, and based on its recent history with innovative practices (Communion in the hand, for instance) it would appear the Holy See might just ‘go with the flow’...

Not a chance....the Catholic church cannot and will not change scripture....homosexual relationships are wrong period....

From wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Campolo

He is a major author and thinker among evangelical Christians.

His latest:

“On June 8, 2015, Tony Campolo released a statement changing his position on the issue of gay relationships, and stating that he now supported full acceptance of Christian gay couples into the Church. He cited several reasons including the institution of marriage primarily being about spiritual growth instead of procreation, what he had learned through his friendships with gay Christian couples, and past examples of exclusionary church traditions.”
