Jeff Schweitzer heralded the discovery of an apparent Earth-like planet as a nail in the coffin for religion in a Thursday item on Huffington Post. Schweitzer, a scientist, "rationalist," and former Clinton administration senior policy analyst contended that "with this discovery, we come ever closer to the idea that life is common in the universe," and added that religions would "all will come out and say such a discovery is completely consistent with religious teachings. My goal here is to declare this as nonsense before it happens."
The Huffington Post contributor led his article, "Earth 2.0: Bad News for God," by asserting that "the discovery of Kepler-452b is not likely to see the public swoon with a collective rendition of Kumbaya. But this Earth 2.0 is a huge if under-appreciated discovery, not because Kepler-452b is unique but for just the opposite reason; there are likely thousands or millions or even billions of such earth-like planets in the universe." Schweitzer continued with his "we come ever closer to the idea that life is common in the universe" line and predicted that if life was discovered outside of Earth, it would prompt a "re-write of history on the part of the world's major religions."

I'm sure God is just shaking with fear in His Heavenly Realm.
... And then they discovers that the new planet is actually Hell.
Name one other place in the universe where life can be found other than Earth. Just because there's another planet somewhere that scientists THINK MIGHT be "like" Earth, there's no reason to believe that it harbors life of any kind, much less anything resembling HUMAN life.
And that's ONE PLANET in the entire cosmos that we've been able to observe.
That's about as "common" as common sense among liberals.
Everything in the universe and beyond was created by God. Take that moron.
And they invariably reveal their complete ignorance of Christianity.
CS Lewis commented on how the same people would say that finding no other life supporting planets was proof there was no God also.
It’s bad news only for those folks who are obsessed with discrediting what they think is religion.
Awe heck doesn’t he know God promises a new heaven and earth? No where does it say we get to keep the old one.
The idea of life being out there does not contradict Scriptures nor the idea of a Supreme being. God creates life.
I guess I’m just stupid. I’ve always given God the credit for creating the universe. Life found on another planet would only confirm what I believe. Hmmmm. Mrs. Schweitzer’s little Jeffery seems a little out of balance to me.
Naturally they’re going to tell Muslims that Allah is a farce also...
I would call them crazy liberals, but that would be redundant.
It seems to me that he is trying to defame the bible, not God. There’s a difference you know.
The media reports these stories of an "earth-like planet" somewhere in the universe as if the thing is just beyond the moon and can be inhabited by 2030.
Kepler-452b is a planetary body orbiting a star that is 1,400 light-years away. In other words, even a beam of light sent there from earth wouldn't get there until 3465 AD. And since this discovery was made by a telescope, it is visual evidence of this "earth-like planet" ... which means the Kepler telescope can only show us what this body in space looked like 1,400 years ago. It can't even prove that it still exists today.
Yep, God’s REAL worried.</s>
Nice try, HuffPoo, but we understand the Left’s contempt for God.
So that planet had evolution too? Sorry, some of us just don’t buy a series of mistakes made man.
Pray America is waking
“Warp factor TEN Mr. Sulu...”
Let’s see...even at that speed, we can languish in cryo-sleep for over 100 years. I think God used distance/time to separate realities through the universe. Lots of great food for thought.
I think it might be Mitt Romney’s planet Kolob.
Check for magic underpants.
