Senate Republicans take revenge against Ted Cruz by refusing to back amendments
Houston Politics Examiner ^ | July 28, 2015 | Mark R. Whittington

Posted on 07/27/2015 10:06:51 AM PDT by Marcus

Think of it as the Empire strikes back. Two days after Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas took to the floor of the Senate and called Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a liar, Republican senators, apparently on the behest of the Republican leader, refused to second a motion to back a Cruz amendment to the highway bill to make the lifting of sanctions against Iran contingent on that country recognizing Israel’s right to exist and freeing four American hostages. As the Washington Examiner reported on Sunday, the lesson was struck home by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah when he delivered a soliloquy about decorum in the Senate, obviously directed against Cruz.

More like Ted Cruz standing up to King Ahab and Jezebel and the 400 prophets of baal as Elijah.

Mike Lee as Elisha.

And this time the conservatives will not throw them a lifeline or bail them out at the last second. If Bush gets the nomination he will lose badly and the GOP won’t need to worry about fielding a candidate in 2020 because there won’t be a Republican Party left, or the remnant that remains will be too small to challenge the Democrats and the new conservative party that left the GOP en masse.

Ted Cruz knew exactly what would happen. He’s exposing the GOP leadership for what it is.

Of course, Big Government media has a different agenda, but we expect that from them.

America is so far done that most Americans just are ignorant. Even many Republicans in the Senate are communists leaning liberals and will support the communists Democratic Party. Things cannot wait until 2016 but the communists need to be exposed now.

“Didn’t even get a second from Mike Lee? He and Cruz must have worked out some sort of a deal on this.”

Didn’t Lee and Paul second, but doesn’t it take 11 to get a “sufficient second” to appeal a ruling of the chair?

Thanks. Another analogy comes to mind — rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Polls show the party is in deep trouble but instead of fixing what’s wrong, it focuses on retribution against those who question the direction, integrity and effectiveness of the party, which is the real issue here.

In sports, competition amongst numerous teams makes for interesting leagues. Right now we have a political duopoly. Perhaps another party of two could create a healthier democracy. JMHO.

THAT is a great poster. BUT, you need to have every republican Senators face on that.

I will be calling my Senators and ask them "how do you feel about Sen. Cruz's actions.", and give them just one chance to explain themselves on why they did not stand up with CRUZ yesterday.

It would only have taken ONE republican to Second the motion. THEY FAILED.

We all need to do this, and POST what each said. They must go down in history as the biggest traitors of all because of their actions. I am more than pissed.

Show of hands here: How many of us would have gone up to the podium and stand behind CRUZ yesterday in show of support? (don't think of this as backing Cruz as your candidate, that is another issue)

I would have, and hang the consequences.

Whenever I get a robo-call from the RNC, I shout “Not one DIME for those cowards in Congress!!!”

Suddenly that sounds too mild. FTRNC!!

Meanwhile, I’m sending more $$$$ to the Cruz campaign.

CRUZ or lose!

What I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall the first time that McConnell and Boehner meet Ted Cruz and have to say, “Good morning, Mr. President.”

Time for a investigation.

Actually Ted Cruz is living up to Senator Joseph McCartney’s fame of exposing commies.

I think a whole lot of conservatives are pining for a party that truly represents them. Its like a market segment just waiting for a new product or business to meet its needs. The time seems right for a new conservative party.

The time seems right for a new conservative party.

And say what you will about Trump, he has done more to move things in that direction than anyone else has. He may very well wind up being the guy that provided the spark.

Senate Rules - Top Page

The basis for choosing a recorded vote (yeas and nays) is in the US Constitution, Article I, Section 5. If one-fifth of the body agrees, then a rollcall vote is held.

See Riddick's Senate Procedure starting at page 1397 (2 Mb pdf, coincidentally starts at page 1397 of Riddick's) for more than you probably want to know about the voting procedures in the Senate.

Trump is the recipient of our angst at the GOP. Those conservatives who are jumping on his bandwagon will find out real quick in a Trump presidency our kind would not be welcomed or tolerated. Yeah, I think in 2020 we will finally have a viable conservative political party that will be ready to take on the Democrats and what’s left of the Republican Party.
