Ann Coulter did a piece about that long ago when Halle Berry won her Oscar. The thesis was basically the point you are making. People of mixed race who get raised predominantly by the white side of their family inevitably identify almost exclusively with the black side because of the advantage as a minority it gives them (they might laugh at that notion, but it has been demonstrably true, as both Berry and Barry show us).
Like Obama, Halle Berry’s father wasn’t in the picture, her white mother raised her...but that’s not the half of her life she lifts up to the world.
My wife went was in a grad school program with a woman with virtually the same story.
Ironically, there is power in victimhood status, and to point that out is exerting “white privilege.”
