Is it Time for Women to Register for the Selective Service Program?
Coach is Right ^ | February 5, 2016 | Jim Emerson, staff writer

This week, while addressing the Senate Armed Services Committee regarding the ongoing effort to open combat positions to female troops, the Marine Corps commandant and Army chief of staff both told senators "that they believe women should be required to sign up for the military draft now that they are being integrated into all combat positions."

The generals, Robert Neller, USMC and Mark Milley, US Army, told the committee that women should no longer be exempted from the Selective Service program. The integration of women into combat position without a long term study by the defense department is being forced upon the military by non-serving politicians. Certainly it is an issue which signals the need for a national debate. Will Americans allow their daughters, sisters and wives to be drafted into a combat position?

Certainly there are women who are capable of performing the same work as men in the military. But inescapable facts of biology make that a minimal number at best when it comes to filling positions on the front lines. Standards will be undoubtedly be lowered as they have been in every other social experiment forced on the military. In this nation's history only men were required to register with the Selective Service. During times of war they were drafted to create an Army to protect the country. Women have fought for America since the days of the American Revolution. But they did not serve in Washington's Continental Army.

It was Barack Hussein Obama and the also never-served-a-day-in-his-life Defense Secretary Ash Carter who have ordered the military to open all combat positions to woman. But the question must be asked: Are Americans ready to see pictures of flag-draped coffins flying into Dover AFB carrying their Moms, daughters and sisters?

Definitely, but primarily for nursing and support specialties.

The military doesn’t want any draftees. The ramp up time to get a conscript mlitary makes the entire process moot. Any large scale war would be over before the first draftee made it to boot camp.

Violates equal protection. If women are allowed to voluntarily fill combat roles, they should be subject to the same laws for involuntarily filling those roles.

Note that I strongly (vehemently) disagree with women in combat roles.

Careful what you wish for. Equal means equal, and the bluff has been called.

Yes. The implied obligation to serve is baked in the cake of being in active armed services. They say they want complete access, right?

Well, the central socialist government finally is getting it right.

Draft only females to fill military quotas and allow the menfolk to stay home to keep the home fires burning and the children tended. Gradually phase out male military to have an all female fighting force.

Homosexuals would fit perfectly into the all-female military. Lesbians would have their heaven on earth.

The last time the draft was brought up Charlie Rangle floated the idea. Only Democrats bring it up. If we don’t capitalize on the issue WITH YOUNG FOLKS then we are stoopid. .

Rangel has pushed the draft for years.

The GOP, as a party, has a PhD in stupid.

The idea is nice but the realty is that any future war will not be a short war. All talk about drafting women is political posturing. The Generals made public the debate of the liberals push to put more woman into front line combat and is fighting absurdity with more absurdity.

I've advocated for an "equal" draft for decades, but not just for military service. I would allow anyone to spend their two years in a Peace Corps type organization - but all draftees would have to spend at least 6 months in a third world krap hole.
Two positives from this plan - exposure to the real world would decrease whining about living in America ... and the GI Bill would decrease student loans to a bare minimum.

Well, there is always a peacetime draft, otherwise known as compulsory national service for everyone between 18 and 25.

Obama still has not built his domestic army like he promised and he's running out of time.

What I think a lot of people are missing in this discussion is that we are broke. Funding a conscription army in the field would be impossible. If we slip into a recession this time around, we might just slide into a depression.

I often times think the US is economically where the Soviet Union was in 1989.

“Only the Democrats bring it up.”

For those who may be too young to remember the Vietnam
War the reason the ‘Rats invoke the draft is that it
mainly intensifies opposition by the masses against ANY
military action by the US.

After Vietnam (when those who led the war effort later admitted it was a mistake, and the next president pardoned those who dodged the draft), we could never have a draft again - and the peacetime draft is out of the question because people who believe in nothing won’t want to squander their time on this earth (especially their prime years). One problem with creating a gibsmedat mentality to win elections is that those people don’t listen to ANY authority.

Obama’s domestic army continues to be bred on the welfare reservations; we saw some detachments in action in Ferguson and Baltimore.

Women should register for Selective Service.

There should be no doubt about that.

I certainly wouldn’t watch my sons be drafted; our government no longer has the moral authority to do so. Who would ship off to kill foreigners half a world away while foreigners prey on our families here in the US? Unless they intend to use draftees to close the borders, I don’t doubt that they will be used for immoral purposes (like pushing the gay/feminist agenda in some Muslim country).

Never more so than today; since so many don’t breed, they are simply taking men’s college seats, jobs, and promotions via affirmative action. Instead of just drawing men’s pay, let them do men’s work.
