Whatever the misfortunes of your family the history of Ireland is largely one of a huge, Protestant country, England oppressing a mostly Catholic one, Ireland. That goes back to the 14th century.
That’s correct. While Protestant Ireland has seen its share of troubles too, they don’t compare to the horrors wrought by Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, and Cromwell, among others. Irish Catholics were routinely treated worse than animals.
