I've thought of a strategic scenario that helps Trump in a potential convention floor fight. It's not optimum but it will work I think.
Trump forgoes a VP pick and signals to the convention that he will accept a convention nominated VP.
My chief thought is that it keeps Kasich and Cruz in and at each others throats as they will have to campaign against each other for sure shot VP slot vs a nebulous shot at the Presidency. There are other more nuances on why this would work, but it's all speculation on my part.
Comments?
All you Cruz people know I don't go on Cruz threads and post junk campaign stuff. Please return the courtesy.
I have vetted Jan Brewer, former Gov. of Arizona, she seems to be really good...
I think Trumps gambit will be a bit smarter than this...
For example, who paid for his campaign? The media (he got free coverage by skirting the edge of controversy and saying politically uncorrect things).
Allowing someone else to pick his VP? No.
I dunno. I used to think that Trump/Cruz would be a dream ticket, but anymore, Cruz sounds more like an establishment Republican to me.
I really don’t know who I’d like to see in second slot.
You know this has been done before. It's not breaking new ground.
I don’t know - I think Trump’s VP is very important the way Reagan’s VP being Bush was so fortuitous. Trump’s VP needs to be a strong constitutionalist and believer in limited government since if Trump’s administration is good to great, his VP has a good chance of walking into the White House. Once in the WH, his former VP needs to start (or continue) dismantling most of the unconstitutional federal government.
Maybe so, but not Trump’s style.
For there to be a convention floor fight, first someone has to not earn the magic number of delegates to pass on the first ballot.
VP selection will likely be based on who can deliver a place Trump already hasn’t won (or would win against Hillary.) I don’t think he’d turn that decision over to the convention king makers. Besides, they’d simply saddle him with Romney.
Sniff, Sniff...
Well you want to hear another crazy scenario?
Trump makes a deal to put Cruz on the ticket as VP - something I’ve been very critical of, but here’s the twist...
Shortly after inauguration Trump appoints VP Cruz to the Supreme Court and per Section 2 of the 25th Amendment nominates a successor of his choice who becomes Vice President subject to confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of the Congress.
I disagree. It's totally his style. It attacks and defends at the same time. It knocks the opponents off plan or out of their operation loop and keeps coalitions from forming and growing.
I would add hopefully, it would become a sincerity commitment. Imagine him slipping this into one of his Trump speeches.
I think he should follow Obama’s lead an nominate a screwball. I’m sure everybody knows which candidate fits that description. Think, “mirror image of Biden”.
You do know that Trump literally wrote the book on negotiating, right?
That’s evil. Tip my hat to you.
They forced Reagan to have Bush as VP, and then tried to kill Reagan.
Trump MUST pick an anti-establishment VP, or he will be killed and the uniparty will have won again.
Reagan let the establishment choose his VP....and it nearly cost him his life. Google “Bush and Hinkley” to see what I mean by that.
Of course it is. But any shenanigans pulled by the GOP just isn't going to happen with Trump.
The man wrote the modern book on dealing. He's going to get his way or he's going to walk, and his supporters are going to walk too.
