White House Sponsoring Anti-Gender Stereotypes Conference

The White House will be holding a conference to encourage toy companies and the media to “break down gender stereotypes” because not enough girls are choosing to pursue careers in STEM fields.

The one-day conference, sponsored by the White House Council on Women and Girls, the Department of Education, and the Media, Diversity & Social Change Initiative at the University of Southern California will try to address the “gender gaps in our workforce.”

According to the White House, it is a tremendous problem that only 29 percent of those in some of the “highest-paying, most in-demand” STEM fields are women.

Although the White House vaguely mentions that teaching and nursing are dominated by women (the White House claims only 25 percent of public school teachers and only 9 percent of nurses are men), many of the programs the toy companies and media have “committed” to implementing specifically address issues impacting girls and not boys. …

Name for me any culture that has ever existed that has not had definitive gender roles? Answer: none. Reason: the bearing and care of children.

Here’s a novel thought....maybe on average females aren’t as interested in stem fields as males.

Again, (in a vanity post) the family has a big input in placing women into Science careers and degrees. My mom and dad produced a computer engineer (BSEE). My generation has a woman with a doctorate, another with a MS in computer geographical systems. The newest group has a master’s on the way; and a math teacher in school. In every instance the parents had a lot to do with their professional success.

Indeed. Only old time conservative racist homophobe misogynist sexist neanderthals would have thought something as complicated as gender was defined by something as simple as possessing a penis or a vagina.

How odd when one thinks about it. Feminism has decided that all the things women are generally interested in are inferior to the pursuits of men. So, women must become like men to be valued.

So, women must become like men to be valued.

One of the tenets of radical feminism is that males and females are exactly alike as far as mental abilities. They are correct that on average males and females are about equal in intelligence. But the intelligence is unevenly distributed as far as interests.

There have been many tests done to test male and female intelligence and interests. All tests done show distinct, innate differences between males and females. Generally more males will found at the top and bottom of IQ or aptitude tests. That is why the stupidest person in the room will probably be a male, but the smartest person will also be a male.

But radical feminists (and liberals in general) refuse to accept the fact of mental differences between males and females. Some really wacko libs also believe that physical differences can be erased by females doing weight training...I kid you not.

For libs to argue that the nation's school teachers (among the most ardent libs found anywhere) are deliberately trying to scotch female dreams of success in STEM fields is the height of idiocy. But they will argue that as well.

Yeah, I have a BCS degree, & minor in physics. You’re right that family is the biggest motivator.

...the nation’s school teachers (among the most ardent libs found anywhere)

if you are a true glutton for punishment, or feel the need to atone for past deeds, then go on Facebook, and propose that you do not believe public school teachers are underpaid for their nine months of work...

but be prepared...be very prepared...

I’m the academic under-achiever in my foursome of siblings; only have a BA. Good thing I was born cute!
