So my colleague and I were catching up after not seeing each other for a while.
She’s just accepted a new position as an administrator at the community college up the street from where I work. I wanted to welcome her to the neighborhood and her new job.
We arranged to meet at a Starbucks in between our two institutions on Capitol Hill in Seattle. We talked for maybe 30 or 40 minutes. It’s the kind of innocuous catch-up talk that two college administrators do when we’re trying to figure out what we’ve been up to since we last talked.
My awareness of the incident, as I later explained it to the police officer who took my statement, started with me realizing that my right hand was wet.
We were in a Starbucks and there was lots of liquid around. My cortical brain told me that most likely someone spilled something. But then, I heard someone behind me say something that sounded like, “f*****g n****r b***h.”
My brain needed a new explanation. I turned and realized that a young, white man in his early 20s behind me, neatly dressed with short-cropped hair with a dark-colored backpack, was directing this statement at my colleague.
As I turned to face him, he said, “That’s right, f*****g n*****r b***h” again. He walked to the door and walked out. The incident didn’t really register with me, even as he walked out.

Racist? Yes.
Worthy of condemnation? Yes.
Hate crime? No.
I know the Starbucks this leech was visiting.
I don’t believe it, or it was staged.
White kids don’t do things like that, ever. Unless they are mentally disturbed in which case they wouldn’t be neatly dressed or wearing a backpack.
I figure this is a leadup piece to castigate whites for aggressive behavior towards blacks, when in fact the opposite is the usual case.
Wow. Just wow. Something doesn’t seem right about this, though. We’ve seen enough “false flag” nonsense to call this one into question.
Unless I see video or hear audio I must put this in the “hoax” category until said evidence is presented.

I kept expecting the story to take a turn and reveal they were actually white and the moron that verbally attacked them was black since that would make 100% sense in the world that I live in.
There was recently a case in Albany NY where similar charges were leveled.
Turned out to be a hoax. The accusers got in trouble.
