Almost Half of All TSA Employees Have Been Cited for Misconduct
Condé Nast Traveler ^ | July 14, 2016 | Katherine LaGrave

The Transportation Security Administration's woes continue.

Despite the Transportation Security Administration's ten-point action plan to reduce long lines at airports across the country, lengthy queues remain. Now, the TSA's summer may be getting even worse: According to a recent report from the House Homeland Security Commission entitled "Misconduct at TSA Threatens the Security of the Flying Public", nearly half of the TSA’s 60,000 employees have been cited for misconduct in recent years.

The bad news doesn't stop there. Citations have increased 28.5 percent from 2013 to 2015, and in 2015, the average U.S. airport received 58 complaints each year—more than one a week. (Unsurprisingly, some of the nation's largest and busiest airports—Los Angeles International Airport, Newark International Airport, and Boston Logan International Airport—saw the highest rates of misconduct.) The complaints can come from frustrated passengers, sure, but also from fellow TSA employees and other government workers.

Perhaps even worse? The outcomes of these misconduct allegations. Findings from the six-month-long investigation show that from fiscal year 2013 to 2015, the number of investigations opened and closed decreased by 15 percent and 28 percent, respectively. TSA increased the use of non-disciplinary actions by almost 80 percent, while it decreased the use of disciplinary actions by 14 percent. Put simply, this means the TSA has offered fewer (and lesser) punishments, and has instead sought to treat the misconduct with "more counseling and letters that explain why certain behaviors were not acceptable."(continued)

TSA agents were never the cream of the crop — more like the cottage cheese of the crop.

I just flew last week for the first time in 8 years. The flight was San Francisco to Las Vegas. Both interactions with the TSA were good and the agents were friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously, everyone isn’t having the same experience.

Though the TSA still “supervises”, I think most/all Montana airports no longer have TSA gropers on duty.

Don’t be alarmed by this statistic. I’m an investigator and used to work in DHS. There are a lot of high-caliber people working at the screener level at TSA, to include former/retired LEOs and military. I know guys who spent 25 years on a police force without one blemish and on their first year at TSA got write ups for very minor things beyond their control. Some of the TSA supervisors and managers couldn’t be trusted to pump gas safely, but they advance by issuing a lot of disciplinary violations. IMO, TSA needs to be disbanded and replaced by DHS contractors like they have doing x-ray/mag screening for FPS protecting federal buildings.

All three were bedfellows along with Teddy Kennedy. GW created this mess, and caved to Democrats to ensure it became another failed government jobs program.

Don’t blame Bush (for anything) is just as wrong as the Blame Bush (for everything). Bush was a piss-poor president domestically.

when I worked for them I was a lead. While not a supervisor I ran a crew of 6-7 people. I was surprised how some of them managed to get dressed and actually find their way to work if at all. We had some real winners.

Then who would have the pleasure of groping the passengers?

Thank you for mentioning names. The TSA was a collaboration of a RINO president (Bush the younger) and Congressional dems. The uniparty in action. Before you ask, no I dont miss Geo. Bush.
