I don’t need air conditioning, and neither do you

It’s time to come out of the closet. Or, more precisely, the sweat lodge.

My family lives without air conditioning, except for one antique, semi-comatose window unit that “cools” the bedroom to approximately the same temperature as Dallas at dusk.

Our house in Philadelphia was built in the 1920s, when people were tough and resourceful. For most of the year, the house is cool and pleasant, as long as there isn’t a mash-up of continuously scorching days and epic humidity, when the air is putrid, stagnant and, if it were a color, would definitely be mustard.

Which would be this summer. Which, so far, is the fourth-hottest summer on record in the Washington area. Emphasis on so far. NASA reports that July was the Earth’s hottest in recorded history. Cheer up, people say to those of us without air conditioning, September’s coming. Except people forget that most of September is still summer.

"Bully for you, Karen “Sweathog”."

Did you already know?
Or was it an inspired guess?

It a bigger threat than terrorism.

So you think the Most Honorable John Effin Kerry influenced her article?

Probably. Liberals are sheeple.

Ha ha! Good for you for finding a very comfortable place to live! Having moved recently from the People’s Socialist Republic of Minnesota (beautiful summers) to Central Texas, I have learned that people in my new location put on cardigans when it dips down to 80 in August.

Even with that, I wouldn’t go back if I was offered an extra arm to do so.

God Bless Texas!

These jackwagons are fond of pointing out what percent of the earth's resources Americans consume with only 5% of the earth's population.

What they aren't fond of pointing out is what percent of the earth's needs Americans produce with that same 5%.

Such as, for instance, 60% of the world's corn and 80% of the world's Durham wheat. Or the fact that there are more forests in New England today than there were in 1830.

See good architecture can do it. But like you say if its not built to do it, it wont, and thats not how they build them today.

“I always think that when people attack the notion of AC, it’s an indirect attack on Texas.”

You are mostly right. It’s actually an attack on the entire South. They feel the South would be sparsely populated had it not been for AC.

To some extent they are right ... if it weren’t for AC, I doubt a lot of those liberal fairies would have migrated to VA, NC, FL, TX, etc.

Sort of related to this are the problems liberals have with “large houses”. I have about 2,000 square feet of living space. I can afford more, but 2,000 is about perfect for me. Three liberals I know live in 3,500 sq feet homes. One of those couples has no kids. Climate change machines (i.e. HVAC) is always on. I’m the planet killer though.

Anyway, Texas has a LOT of large houses ... I often see those large house complaints as attacks on Texas too. I think it’s mainly due to liberal propaganda artists being torqued that they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a 300 sqft closet in the latest trendy city.

As Joe Bastardi says, the standard for temperature measurement is now from Satellites. Those temperatures have been recorded for only the last 35 years. Thus ‘highest in recorded history’ is actually ‘highest recorded by satellites since 1980.’ Not exactly a long time to me.

I haven’t turned mine on this summer in my apartment. I can tolerate hot weather, but I still sweat. I’m saving money.

Perfect example of generalized blanket liberal assumptions of everyone else. This is why everything they stand for and attempt goes so wrong.

We like it cool in the summer. Our kids used to wear sweatshirts inside the house because they were cold. We have no problem keeping it at 70degF when it’s 100 outside.

I’m gonna go home tonight and turn my a/c down a couple more degrees. I’ve had the pool heater at 88 degrees since May. 24/7. Now, I can two fist energy consumption to help the economy.

You should say “Other people are what’s wrong with the planet.”. Because to the Liberal, it’s NEVER them.

Air conditioning is not sultry or mysterious. It has no place in pulp fiction or film noir. The movie “Body Heat” is set in a small Florida town in 1981 yet is completely devoid of central air, which manages to make absolutely everything seem sexy — ice cubes, sweat, even wind chimes, which are generally just annoying.

She is truly divorced from reality.

Of course it's liberal.

A conservative would say, "I get along fine without AC (if they do.)

A liberal would say, "I don't need AC, and neither do you.

An elitist liberal would say, "AC for me, but not for thee!" (see: Algore.)

Whew! Where did I leave that eyebleach?

I’d rather stand on railroad tracks at midnight and face locomotive headlights coming at me at 120 MPH.

Of course, typical liberal like her wants to ban A/C for everyone. Kind of like guns.

It actually is better for your a/c as it does not have to work so hard to get the temp down so much.
