Gary Johnson's debate prospects dim
POLITICO ^ | 09/14/2016 | Steven Shepard

Gary Johnson’s hopes of earning an invitation to the Sept. 26 debate are all but extinguished.

The door is about to close on Gary Johnson.

The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has set a “mid-September” deadline for Johnson and the other third-party candidates to meet three criteria to qualify for the first debate later this month: “evidence of constitutional eligibility,” “evidence of ballot access” and “indicators of electoral support.”

Johnson clearly meets the first two qualifications: A two-term former governor of New Mexico, Johnson is a citizen and older than 35 years of age. And the Johnson campaign said Wednesday that he’ll be on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, meaning he’s eligible to win all 538 electoral votes at stake on November 8.

But on the third qualification, Johnson falls short, and it isn’t particularly close. The commission says he must be polling at 15 percent in five major, national polls, “using the average of those organizations' most recent publicly-reported results at the time of the determination.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, Johnson is at only 9 percent, according to a POLITICO estimate.

Well, Trump has to have SOMEONE to debate, because my guess is that Hillary and the corrupt MSN will collaborate on a way to allow her to avoid a confrontation with him. (Health reasons, you know, despite the fact that she’s strong and up to the task. Choke, choke...)

Come to think of it, he’ll have his hands full debating the moderators...

"Johnson and Weld are no libertarians."

I can't see how true Libertarians can endorsed these two - they are for taxpayer funding of abortion and for more restrictive gun laws.
Neither of those are "neutral" stances.

perhaps
but i think her handlers will pump her so full of powerful meds that a useless diversion on stage like Johnson won’t make any difference
she will either sink or swim, depending on how well the meds resurrect her, and the longer she has to talk the more chance there will be for her medical problem to re-evidence itself

and besides, the more she talks, the less votes she gets

Sure, I'll bookmark this thread and get back to you.

The Libertarian Party's high-water mark in presidential elections is the 1.06% Ed Clark received in 1980. Gary Johnson himself didn't even get a full 1% in 2012. I don't know what you think is so damn different this go around, but I've seen enough of these presidential elections to know that third party candidates never live up to their media or polling hype.

IMO, “indicators of electoral support” and “nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates” are anti-thesis of our Republic.

The ideas, regardless of ‘merit’ of any group, should be an option for all People’s of *any* election.

I only see an under-handed way to keep the public duped as to their choices and the debate of ideas of the Uniparty\2-party-Cartel. EG: It’s been ~40yrs of ‘Me too’ or political-speak when it comes to illegals\etc. Exactly because of this sham.

I lean Libertarian, not because they have all the answers but because a Republican vote in California is wasted, every time.
The Libertarians had a GREAT chance to grow the party this year, and blew it.
Johnson is a joke.

You could very well be correct. This election, however, features candidates that the majority of folks find reprehensible. And they see the Uniparty for what it is.

So if Johnson is a pot-addled clown, why not give him a chance to show that in a presidential debate? Then he can be permanently dismissed.

This is a good thing for several reasons, but mainly because the less people know about this nut-job, the more likely it is that disgruntled Democrats will vote for him as an alternative to the unacceptable sick, crooked Hillary.
