What's the Point of Having a Majority If GOP Doesn't Use It?

We define victory by winning

Last week, during an aside in his speech at the Values Voters Summit, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) shared an insight into the timid appeasers comprising GOP congressional leadership. When he first entered the House in 2006 the talk was of the big things the Republican majority was going to accomplish.

Then he attended a GOP House conference meeting and found leadership worried. They explained that yes, the plan was to do big things. But there was “a small chance” Republicans might lose the majority. So to play it safe, the leadership wants to do small things, win the election and keep the majority.

They are using it. To block further Obama legislation if nothing else. But if Trump is elected they will be using it a lot more next year.

I have been asking this same question for a few years now.

This is why I quit the Republican Party in 2015, after watching them squander the victory to which my 2014 mid-term vote contributed.

Screw the Party. Save the Country.

If Paul Ryan were 25% as conservative as he pretends to be, Donald Trump would not even be in politics.

I’ve been asking myself this question for 6 years.

Oh, they use their power for bailouts, to increase H1B visa’s and enrich
their big donors.
Not so much for the average American, though.

The problem is that the GOP and the Democratic Party are not single parties, but both have warring factions.

For the Democrats look at the Clinton Sanders divide within the party. This is a shift that isn't going to heal anytime soon. There is lots of grass roots support for change in the Democratic Partly Leadership.

In the Republican Party, the entire Presidential nomination process was Conservatives, versus Party ruling Elite, versus Trump. Trump brought new blood into the Party and beat the pants off of conservative candidates.

So, while having a majority of “party” members in both the Senate and House, there are some “Republicans” who will vote with democrats on Some Issues.

Take an issue like immigration or abortion. Some Republicans are on each side of these issues.

When you have the majority, you get more attention from lobbyists and campaign contributors. But if you actually USE your majority against the Democrats, you get troubles.

The strategy, then, is to win, but then keep the Dems happy.

The major reason why the GOPE opposes Trump, is that he is unlikely to want to put up with that game.

If you don't use it ,.. you will lose it !
Enough of the 'Vichy' RepubliCRats
A couple of weeks ago, I have to vote for a Conservative 'dead guy' (NY Assemblyman Bill Nojay)
rather than have that seat given to a milquetoast 'Vicy' RepubliCRat in the primary election.
Fortunately, the seat was given to an experienced State Conservative, although he isn't as Conservative as Nojay was,
but we have to pick out battles !
At least this primary candidate isn't part of the UniParty !

Majority = Mandate!

If Trump wins in a landslide (which I fully expect him to) he will be given a mandate by the Majority Of Voters, and the UniParty schmucks will have no defense against the will of the people!

Go, Trump, GO!

First win the White House,
Then vote out McConnell and Ryan from their positions as head of senate and house
Then vote them out outright from the senate and house.

They use it to negotiate loopholes for their big money donors. Sure Mr. President, we can come together on your Bill to Undermine America, we just need this provision here... and this one over here.. and.. signed. Oh and of course you do understand we’ll have to condemn this is the strongest terms on the Sunday shows, but we’ll be back Monday morning with another list of concessions.

If Trump is elected, will he be able to bully the GOP majority into doing the right thing, or will they use their majority to obstruct him and protect the same people that liberal congressmen protect?

At least they aren’t confirming any new Supreme Court justices. But there is still the lame duck session...
