Lester Holt Was Biased
September 26, 2016 | Pinkbell

Hillary was well rehearsed and polished indeed, but she had help from the moderator. What did Lester ask Hillary that was tough? He asked Trump four tough questions:

1) He asked Trump about his taxes.

2) He asked Trump about the birth certificate.

3) He pressed Trump on his opposition to Iraq.

4) He asked Trump about his comments on Hillary not having the "look" of being President and then proceeded to repeat Meghan Kelly's point about Trump calling women pigs, etc.

5) He rebuffed Trump on stop and frisk (saying that stop and frisk was found unConstitutional). He responded, but to it, but still...

Also, I don't know how many times Hillary Clinton was allowed to ramble on, but Trump would attempt to respond, and Lester would say something like, "Only a few seconds, Mr. Trump," or "We really have to move on, Mr. Trump, and get to the next question."

CNN keeps saying that Trump went into the weeds. Well, Trump was responding to Lester's questions.

Things you didn't hear:

1) He never asked Hillary about Benghazi.

2) He never asked Hillary about her emails.

3) He never asked Hillary about pay for play.

As I said, she was polished and rehearsed. Trump dropped some opportunities with regard to this. Here are some:

One example is how he handled the birther issue being called racist. There were other ways that could have been addressed like bringing up white Presidents questioned over their birth, explained he questioned Ted Cruz, explained why it wasn't racist, explained concerns with why people questioned birth certificate, etc.

Another example was about his comments about women. That was not good that he went for the Rosie O'Donnell line. He should have talked all about how he hires women at the Trump Organization and his record there, about the women who support him, about how she takes money from countries that are terrible to women, about the Benghazi and angel moms, about the woman whose life is ruined because Hillary defended her rapist when she was 12, etc. He should have talked about what he will do for women and how his policies will help women.

A third example was about Saudi Arabia when she said he wanted them to get a nuclear weapon. He should have talked about how she takes money from them. That could have led into pay to play.

A fourth example was taxes where he let her get away with saying he doesn't pay taxes. After the debate they asked him, and he said that he does pay federal taxes. He should have talked about the waste with our tax dollars too.

Benghazi, the emails, and pay for play weren't brought up by Lester, but Trump should have tried to work them in more. Of course, that's hard when Lester seemed to let her drive the conversation by always telling Trump he had to move on.

The focus groups on two networks, one being CNN, showed Hillary winning the debate 18-2 and 16-6. The CNN poll after the debate which had a much larger Dem sample, showed her winning by a large margin.

It was his first debate. CNN's panel universally agreed he did a great job at the beginning on trade and the economy. His team a couple weeks to prep and be ready for the next one. She is a good debater, but she has a lot of canned lines. He has a good feel now for how she is going to handle things, and I think he can prepare for the next one. Hopefully the moderator is more balanced and puts her on the defensive more with some tough questions her way. Watching her smirk as he got tough questions while she got none was disgusting.

Actually, Cboldt, I'm done.

I feel your pain, same sort of thing going on here in my head. I have some Jose Cuervo. We could swap and share. I'm watching Star Trek reruns, and will likely stay away from CNN for a week ;-)

Have some faith. I think public reaction is driven by forces that we "see differently." I think we'll find that Trump did fine, somewhere between great and a ding that will buff out.

I only noticed one serious issue with Holt. Debate moderators should not be acting like fact checkers. Hillary claimed Trump was for the Iraq invasion. Trump said, “No!” That’s when Lester Holt stuck his nose in it and claimed Trump did support the invasion which put Trump on defense.

The moderator should let the candidate’s statements stand. They can be rehashed after the debate, but taking sides like that actually harmed the overall debate by forcing Trump to waste OUR time to respond in more detail to Lolt’s (and Hillary’s) claims. Holt should have kept his mouth shut other than to ask questions and control the amount of time for each candidate.

Don't count on that. He probably feels he was too tough in asking about her private server, and has to now "correct his error" by helping her.

I know. Unbelievable. Kellyanne Conway was interviewed after and said Lester was fair with the exception that he didn’t bring up some things like the emails. No, he wasn’t, Kellyanne. You should call him out.

How has Candy Crowley’s career been since she pulled her ‘Lester Holt’?
Never seem to hear her name.

Please don’t take away from last shred of hope for a fair moderator. Haha!

Holt repeatedly interrupted Trump’s points, seemingly timed to ruin Trump’s best lines.

Of course Lester was biased. Everyone knew that going in. No tough questions for Her Thighness. Trump missed several opportunities. Completely let a hanging curve ball go right by him. Really? Cybercrime and you don’t shove her emails down her throat? Not ONE mention of the Clinton Foundation?

Trump may feel he is the better man for letting her call him sexist and resisting the urge to wag a finger in Bill’s direction. Maybe it will earn him a few soccer moms but I doubt it.

Sorry, but I have to say poor performance from Trump. All he needed to win was turn very answer to every question into one of three responses. $20 Trillion in debt (which he did reference two or three times. Hillary is corrupt and part of a corrupt mob. Lowering taxes on the only people who PAY taxes will create jobs which will reduce unemployment in cities reducing crime. Instead he spent half of his time talking defending himself. Bad decision.

As far as her health I have suspected we were being played. Remember, this is the Clintons. I still say you can’t medicate PSP or even Parkinson’s to the level of performance she can muster.

We can hope it will have no impact but I had hoped for better.

i highly doubted she was THAT sick.

and no, OF COURSE this settles the issue.

She has at the Very Worst, EXTREMELY early neurological disease.

i got a head injury. You can’t do that or 90 minutes without getting incredibly flustered, no matter HOW biased the moderator is.

I was wanting him to openly mock her “seriousness” on cyber security and openly mock her when she accused him for having something to hide because of his taxes. He could have devoured her on the having somehthing to hide issue.

I still Say his best answer to the BC would have been, “What difference, at this point, does it make.”. That would have stung her badly. A swing and a miss. He wasted five minutes at least defending himself. He could have spent the time pointing out her corruption and Zero’s connection to it. Instead he made it about him.

What a weasel on birtherism. Asked and answered, Mr. Holt now how about asking Clinton about Bill’s female victims and her cover ups? No can do?

All those liberal tools at CNN. Trump did well with the TV audience. He didn’t smash Hellary to pieces, but he got his points across that will play well in the swing states like in the rust belt. The lame Media or the Hoftra U. crowd are not his targeted audience and Hellary is too well known to Americans to get away with all her BS.

I didn’t see any obvious bias.

I thought the moderator did a fairly good job of keeping the “debate” in the hands of the candidates.

I knew she was going to come out there fit as a fiddle tonight. They need to work with Trump and do mock debates. I think they are necessary. Have someone play Hillary and throw all her lines out there. Then formulate the best responses to them. There are things he says on the trail and other points against her that he didn’t use that he can work in to deliver the “kill shot.”

Of course, it helps to have a fair moderator too.

Asking Trump if he will accept a Hillary victory was bizarre.

The bias backfired.

The biased questions gave Trump the opportunity to contrast the accusations against him with his passion to really improve things in America and his competence at handling people being rough with him.

The impression about Hilary being a liar and corrupt still live on, unaddressed. She showed no passion for making the country better, only passion for accusing Trump of being deplorable.

i agree. he wasted too much time on defense and not as much on offense (of course it was 2 against 1). they say defense wins championships, but it doesn’t win debates.
