Citing an active danger to health and safety a California Episcopal parish has ceased to pray for the President of the United States by name.
Episcopalians and other Anglicans regularly pray for their bishops and others in authority during the course of a normal Sunday liturgy, including the President of the United States. It is also common to pray, by name, for the President-elect during the window of time between the election and the inauguration.
Mike Kinman, Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, California, blogged this week:
If you come to All Saints this Sunday, youll notice that we have removed the proper names from our prayers for those in authority. Whereas before we prayed for Barack, our president, we are now praying for our president, our president-elect, and all others in authority. This practice will continue for at least the near future.
We are in a unique situation in my lifetime where we have a president elect whose name is literally a trauma trigger to some people

Americans should practice praying: “God save the Donald and Jobs”. Then make the Sign of the Cross and holler “MAGA!”
Liberals have worked themselves into a state of mass hysteria over literally nothing.
They all loved Trump when he was a famous businessman with a television show, but because he chose to run as a Republican, and tell the straight up truth about the state of our country, the Democrats AND Republicans, immigration, trade, defense, the media, etc., he's now Hitler reincarnated.
These people are sick, and getting sicker by the day.
“We have removed the proper names.” Thanks for telling me. Now me and about three or four people understand that you removed the proper names. Maybe you should focus on solving the problem of low attendance.
Last x-mas I accompanied my ex-girlfriend for the first time to an epised-off catholic ( her words not mine) Easter service in Abilenne Texas. And the orator began his service by saying a blessing for the idiot in charge.
I kissed her on the cheek and said I will meet you outside.
Needless to say that didn’t go over to well. But I’ll be damn if I even thought that was part of an Easter celebration.
Did I mention she is my Ex-girl friend.
The Episcopal Church was taken over by sodomites and eco fascists a long time ago. It can no longer be considered a mainstream religion.
I once knew a guy who said Episcopalians just got tired of being Catholics.
The are effing lowlifes. I am ashamed of the church in America.
If I were a member of that parish, I would simply say “Donald” in a loud voice at the appropriate time.
It is a single layperson saying the prayer. A parishioner can say aloud what they are leaving out, just as loud. If the Priest objects to the disruption, suggest that the parish stick to the prayers as written in the Book of Common Prayer.
Make Church Great Again!
They’re trying to turn Trump into Voldemort. I almost wish I were a member of this congregation so I could leave in disgust.
fool of a pastor. So instead of helping people confront their fear and realize how ridiculous it is, which he in place to do being leader of his flock, he babies them so they stay spiritually and emotionally readily available for the wolf satan to continue to devour.
Just when I thought this church could not embarrass me more, this happens. Leaving that “church” behind 17 years ago was a good life choice. It is a political party, not a place of worship.
I suspect, based on a pastor being published informally as “Mike” and him referring to an authority such as “Barack” on a chummy 1st-name basis, this is already a post-modern “contemporary” church. More likely to slip into liberalism if not already there.
