“Oh REAL wars! It’s ridiculous to think that Trump is going to want to fight Russia or China.”

Agreed. . . but what if what he doesn’t want happens anyway? Bush didn’t want 911. It happened anyway. I really hope Iran, North Korea, Russia and China all decide that now is not the time to all go for it (whatever that might respectively be for each one of those powers) because we couldn’t win against all four and probably not against even two of them (i.e. China and Russia) without enormous cost to us in men and materials. If China makes grabs in the South Pacific, what can we do about it? If Russia decides to gobble up Ukraine or the Baltic States, what can we do about it?

We can’t even win wars against peasant goat humpers in Iraq & Afghanistan - Trump probably won’t change this losing pattern we’ve had militarily since WWII?

I think this will get ugly IMHO.

“(and (1a) does congress agree with me)”

Oh you mean “War Hero” McCain and Linda Graham along with Democrats?

Since when do FReepers side with them?

I would have preferred we didn’t try to impose a central government on a country of tribesmen who don’t want one. A much smarter and effective strategy would have been to play one tribe off against another as we did initially.

“He ends it and it becomes South Koreas problem.”

While it’s not the responsibility of the USA, South Korea is facing a massive influx of people should the NK regime fall and Korea is reunified. That doesn’t bode well for a reunified Korea’s economy. Don’t be surprised if South Korea makes the most noise about taking out the North ... chances are they don’t want reunification.

It seems China is licking its chops over the North being taken out ... South Korea will take a major hit economically ... the South is going to get all of the refugees ... that’s going to place a nasty burden on that country’s resources and might open up the country to more Chinese influence.

There are many reasons Korea has been in a stalemate situation for decades. We can blame all the Democrats we want, but there are several other geopolitical reasons why there is a standstill (again, I suspect the South didn’t want it ... especially after seeing what happened after East & West Germany were reunified).

I do agree that bringing home 28K US troops is a good thing. If Korea (assuming reunification takes place) wants to cave to Chinese influence instead of funding their own military 100%, that’s their decision.

What are they even talking about? We’ve been constantly at war since 2001

One could say that the US has been more or less constantly at war since 1775. The longest period of relative peace was between the War of 1812 and the Mexican war - 31 years - and even that does not take into account the American Indian wars that went on from before the revolution until 1924 (Officially). If you count all conflicts involving American troops or naval forces, not just declared wars, the warfare has been virtually unbroken since early colonial times.

Hussein has put in place the conditions for multiple wars including assaults on American units and American assets in Asia, the South Sea, the Middle East, perhaps even in Latin America and was apparently trying hard to foment a war with Russia. Trump has to show that we truly are a tough guy and are not going to put up with any nonsense and he has to do it quickly before our potential adversaries have truly had time to size him up and plan accordingly. He is doing all that.

The reason so many must “scramble to cover their living costs” is because they must also cover the living costs of the illegal aliens, the deadbeat non-producing citizens and the give aways to foreign countries that hate us. Thanks you liberal dumb clucks.

Remember the cold war? We had a slow simmer state of pseudo war on and off with Russia and or China since 1945. The Russians and Chinese couldn’t survive an all out war with us any more than we could with them. None of us have anything to gain from an all out attack on another super power.

South China Sea, Ukraine, even the Baltics are the kind of things we have been dealing with since 1945. Even if a shooting war develops we always seem to keep it contained and the world doesn’t end.

Iran and the Norks are a different matter. They both appear crazy enough to attack us. If they do, we just need to take them seriously stomp them hard and leave them failed states with lots of bad people fighting each other for control of the smoking rubble. Enough to make everyone else take us seriously again. Trump seems a lot more likely to do that than Obama or Clinton.
