Starship Troopers.
Starfleet.
“Star Fleet” should be organized like the navy not the Air Force. How can you have an “air force” where there is no air? Navys have a tradition of exploration, air forces just drop bombs on things.
Just another excuse to steal taxes from us.
Whichever company that got the contract for storm trooper armor should be excluded from all bidding.
Real Starship Troopers.
The TV series “Space Patrol” of the ‘50s was the basis for this bunk. :)
I nominate these guys for the first recruits for the Space Corps!
Hey they have 3 million years of experience!
Just have plenty of lager, pappadoms & vindaloo handy
I thought submarine crews were suited to such a mission. Throw in Seals and Marines for the troops.
I’d pay to watch that.
and they’d still need Marines to watch over their Captains.
I dunno... we launched a rocket into space, then launched a rocket from the rocket, and hit a comet that was hurtling round the solar system.
Then there’s that spaceplane no one talks about that stays up for months.
Looking at the history of impacts, it might be a really good idea to develop some skill at detecting and diverting meteors.
And judging by China’s destruction of a satellite it seems we had best get really good at defending satellites from possible attack by China, etc., or hunting satellites ourselves, and do so fast, as technology is improving exponentially...
They aren’t going to be guarding the galaxy. Just the US. Not from aliens, either.
This claim - the title “A proposed new military branch would send US troops to guard the galaxy” is at this point in time NOT fact, but “fake news”.
There are already a number of national security activities that take place in “space”, in earth orbit, and as relates to missile defenses.
The Air Force has long claimed ownership of these activities.
That also places the activities in line of being judged among other things in the DOJ budget assigned to the Air Force. It means the activities lack their own independent advocate and budget.
THAT is the reason for this AT THIS TIME and not to go off tomorrow sending astronauts to “guard the galaxy”.
At some distant future date, such activity could come under the command of this additional military department, but nothing like that is within the abilities or mission of that department at this time.
CNN is attempting to make the measure appear silly by giving it now, falsely. a mission that in all present circumstance IS silly - a mission it does not presently have.
Now why in the hell would we defend and protect the national socialists when they get deported to Mars?
“We have a higher level of technology than were being told about. Much higher”.
You are correct.
It often makes me chuckle. Am I supposed to believe that I dreamed being on that underground train?
Good point. People who doubt this are fooling themselves.
We have had a Space Corp for years. It’s called NASA. Now it will “officially” branch out to the USSC.
All the original astronauts were military officers for a reason.
