FLOTUS Friday In Fuchsia

I loved the Calvin Klein business suit that Melania wore to the UN for PDJT’s speech in which he was said to have bullied Kim Jung Un.

In fact, I think I even had a suit like that back in the day. However, although it fit impeccably, I would have to put myself in the “not a fan” camp of the Madame Butterfly dress she chose for her speech on cyber-bullying.

All I know for sure is that Melania never makes fashion mistakes so I can only assume she was making a statement with this fuchsia dress the same way she made a statement with the fuchsia pussy blouse at one of the Hillary/Trump debates.

The Gucci “pussy bow” blouse alone would have said enough, but when paired with the matching trousers to create a new style “pants suit” she pretty much stuck it to everyone who needed to be stuck.

So if anyone can explain what the “hot pink Delpozo dress with statement sleeves” was all about please let me know…oh wait: maybe it’s the “statement sleeves!”

Melania, in just 2 appearances, replaced the de rigueur look of the Michelle Obama era - sleeveless, bare legged and above the knee frocks – with something altogether more appropriate.

*trigger warning*

michelle sleeveless and pits upNo more pit shots!

She just made it quite okay for real women to wear slack suits again without fear of being viewed as an old washed-up feminst, and to sport dresses with season-appropriate sleeves and age-appropriate hem lines. Bless her for that. And let the Melania bullying begin.

Her fuchsia “coat” with yuge sleeves makes this statement: Melania looks gorgeous in ANYTHING, even this semi-ugly outfit!

The Wookie went sleeveless just to show off his guns, Hogan/Ventura style.

I agree. When I saw her speak to the UN, I asked myself who the blob was. Hillary? Rosie O'Donnell? Then I saw it was her and was shocked at her dress choice.

As a photographer, I can say that fuschia "blocks up" and definition is lost. Too much luminosity unless you make some adjustments.

I think it is about the “statement sleeves”. Seems to be a big style trend lately.

The picture at the podium did not do the dress justice. It took the balance out of the dress.

The first picture shows the continuity of the dress much better.

The stilettos were perfect.....in case the media missed it.

My thoughts exactly! I loved the picture of her that they used. I’d like to see a lot more angles of that. I’d bet it’s incredibly dramatic in movement. Hated the picture at the podium. The flow and the sculptured layers were lost. It was an art piece that just didn’t work in that particular view. Which, of course, is the reason the MSM uses that one exclusively.

And people weren’t making adjustments. Many of the images I saw of it were, indeed, “blocked up”. Excellent catch!

______
Disagree. She is overwhelmed. This is even more difficult to wear in real life than the flower coat. It’s for someone 3 inches taller, 20 pounds lighter, narrower in the shoulders and bust and with more dramatic, darker coloring.

It swallows her whole and washes her out. The color is more intense than the earlier pants suit.

She knew she would be photographed from the front, behind a lectern that would cut her off at the bust and she wore it anyway.

Fail. Believe me.

Love the cut of the dress but the color was too intense for a FLOTUS in any setting whatsoever. Plus, official venues are always decorated with the standard palette of flat primary colors found in national flags worldwide: red, white, blue, red, green, yellow, orange, plus navy and harvest gold—so she would be standing amid such colors , and the nearly day-glo fuschia really clashed. I see starlets on the red carpet making this mistake and it makes my teeth hurt to see it.

As the photographer above noted, the near-iridescence of that color “bleeds” one pixel into another on digitized media transmission and blurs out the details like the lovely sleeve draping.

I wish she had worn that same dress in ivory, cream, Williamsburg blue, periwinkle, warm medium gray, very pale yellow, pale grayish blue, very pale peach or very pale blush pink.
