QUEBEC INDEPENDENCE: I SAY GO FOR IT!

Posted on 01/17/2018 6:35:17 AM PST by DIRTYSECRET

Let our real estate magnate POTUS pull the levers. As Calif becomes 2 states the eastern provinces in Canada fall into our hands because they couldn't survive without Quebec. Call the new state New England and eliminate the 6 already there. 2 west coast senators minus 10 New England's existing states. Does that small region really deserve 12 Senators?

Do it at the same time we call for Puerto Rican independence. Timing. Advocate overthrows of Cuba and Venezuela.

Old New England has the same problem California does: a few dense pockets of liberals mostly clustered along the coastline overshadow a much larger swath of rural conservatives.

There are more pony tailed lefties than farmers. Chances are the farmers smoke a lot of weed.

??!! Quebec is not needed for Canada (as long as the ST. Lawrence remains open). The folks there are much more liberal than that liberal country overall. They are uber-statists, and they have three-hundred year old protections for the French language baked in.

Ontario and British Columbia are the present dynamic urban centers. Alberta and Saskatchewan have the resources, and are comparatively more conservative (though Edmonton is not).

Oh, and the folks in the country as a whole are absolutely devoted to state-run health care.

I like Canada fine, and I married a fine Canadian woman, but Quebec is a bad fit for both sides.

We don’t want Canada’s eastern provinces, that is a nutty idea.

On rereading I now see the idea is to have Quebec unite with the New England states. Still a bad fit, and the presumption of the old lines in Massachusetts makes them inclined to want to run things rather than leave. We’ll need more than Trump to show them the door.

Quebec will never leave Canada.
Too many Indian tribes on the receiving end of the money flow.

NY too. NYC way out-votes the rest of the otherwise conservative state.

Apparently the Canadian provinces east of Quebec consider joining the US a given should Q secede.

When the idea of Quebec leaving Canada has come up in the past, Canada has said, “fine, take you share of the national debt, and go” - the talk then quickly goes away!

Yup. Plenty of non-Indians, too.

Alberta is the Texas of Canada, they are welcome, the rest NO.

You have it exactly backwards: The RoC (Rest of Canada) would get along just fine without Kay-Beck. Without the subsidies from Western Canada, Quebec would be Haiti North, with white folk.

The western provinces, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba would become states. Ontario would remain as the nation of Canada, while Quebec and the eastern provinces would become French Canada. Though without transfer payments from Ottawa, provinces like PEI, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland, maybe even New Brunswick, would become economic basket cases that even the northeastern US states would take a pass on. The Maritimes could become the Bangladesh of North America.

Culturally, neighboring US states and their Canadian counterparts have more in common with each other than their east-west orientated populations.
